Will my Volvo XC0 be ok on Pirelli Zero Rosso tyres in winter, or should I fit dedicated winter tyres?

I am going to need to replace the original tyres on my Volvo XC60 D5 AWD after 19,500 miles. It is currently fitted with Pirelli Zero Rosso 235/60 R18 V103. My Volvo main dealer says that these tyres are designed for use on a vehicle such as mine and that I do not specifically need to consider cold weather tyres. I know I would have to revert to normal tyres in March. Is this sound advice? The tyres performed very well in the snow we had earlier in the year, particularly on our office car park, which does not get gritted and is on a slope.

XC60s are very good on Zero Rossos, but these are high performance directional or asymmetrical summer tyres (directional for front axles only). Alternatively, there are five different types of Pirelli Scorpions for mixed off road/on road and winter use. Pirelli Sotto Zeros are high performance winter tyres. More at www.tyrereviews.co.uk
