Should I get winter tyres for my C-Class?

Driving my Mercedes-Benz C220 in snowy weather is a nightmare. Should I buy an all-wheel drive car or buy snow tyres? I do a lot of driving on motorways and country lanes and the last few weeks have been a nightmare - I can't keep the Mercedes on the road.

If I get tyres which ones do you recommend? If a four-wheel drive which small one do you recommend?

Buy cold weather tyres and fit them from November to April, or buy Continental Winter Contact TS850s and fit them all year round.
