Wisdom of Buying a Car that has had a Bump?

Had agreed to buy a friend's good condition 06 plate Pathfinder Adventura 80K miles for £8400, which I thought was an ok deal. Before the transaction was done he rear-ended someone - not hard enough for airbags to go off but it's now in a Nissan dealer (full insurance job) for at least a new grille, bonnet and one wing, but no structural damage it seems.

Grateful for your houghts on how to proceed - avoid at all costs, offer less (if so how much?), independent inspection advised or what?

Has a chassis, so might be okay, might not. Damage might be no more than superficial. You'll soon find out by how it drives. Look carefully at the tyres for any scuffing that ight indicate it is not tracking properly.
