How can potential buyers test drive our car without transferring the ownership to us?

My father-in-law died in June and, amongst other things, left my wife, as his Executor, a car to dispose of. In compliance with the current DVLA rules we completed the SORN and took the uninsured car off the road. We now wish to sell the car, which was bought new by father-in-law six years ago. We are happy to insure the vehicle temporarily but have now been informed by DVLA that the car cannot be test driven on the road by a prospective buyer unless we transfer ownership to my wife. That means that the logbook will acquire another owner who has not used the car in any way. How do dealers manage to sell vehicles without taking ownership like we are being expected to do? What are we doing wrong?

You could sell it straight to a dealer, but the best answer is www.sure-sell.info . They will collect on trade plates and trade insurance if necessary.
