Can you recommend a small, automatic car with good suspension and a comfortable ride?

We seem to feel every road imperfection that our 3-year-old automatic Astra traverses on the short journeys we mostly make. The Citroen C5 we had previously was better, but like driving a battleship. A Nissan Juke provided recently as a courtesy car was certainly better than the Astra in cushioning us from our awful roads, but the absence of a spare tyre, and awkward entry to the rear seats, was a bit off-putting. There is also a delivery delay. As we do not have many car dealers locally (other than Nissan) it would be very helpful if you could point us to a smallish automatic which might have decent springing more suitable for elderly frames on these ghastly roads, so that we could investigate further.

With its Watts linkage rear suspension, the latest Astra is vastly better, even on 17-inch wheels with 45 section tyres. But the current model Renault Megane on 195/65 x 15 tyres is best in class. There are also reports that at low speeds the new Citroen C4 is very soft, while the latest Ford Focus and C-Max offer an uncannily good combination of ride comfort, roadholding and handling.
