Can I return my Ford Kuga PHEV which is under recall?

I have a Ford Kuga St Line purchased in June 2024 with a PCP supplied by Ford (FCE). The car is the subject of a recall for a problem with the battery - it can only charge to 80% until the recall problem is solved). Do you know of the problem and its solution as this has been ongoing for about 2 months?
Could you also tell me what the consequences of returning the car to Ford are as I am disenchanted with the vehicle and Ford. The car is now only worth up to about £20,000 which is only slightly more than its Optional Final Payment of £18,817. Will I have to pay the settlement figure or can I just return the car to Ford?

Ford issued a recall for Kuga PHEVs due to a potential issue with a short circuit in the drive battery, and have stated that the solution will be a software update which is expected to roll out mid-2026.

As for returning the vehicle, if you have paid more than 50% of the total amount payable (including the balloon payment) then you can opt for a voluntary termination where the car is returned and the contract is ended, although this is marked as such on your credit file. Alternatively you could attempt to reject the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act as it could be argued it is not of satisfactory quality or fit for purpose given it is not possible to charge the vehicle to 100% - you can read more about this process here - www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
