Should I be given a courtesy car by a dealer while my car is being repaired?

I bought a new MG HS PHEV Trophy in December 2025. I have had problems with the sat nav since new and have returned to the garage for a fix 3 times but to no avail. They have said that they may have to remove the whole display and send it away to be fixed. This could take up to 2 weeks. I need a car in that time but they said that they are unable to give me a loan car as I am over 65 and their insurance will not cover it. Can I hire a car of the equivelent size and charge it back to the garage. Can you tell me my rights please?

This is a frustrating situaiton but courtesy cars are a discretionary service provided by some garages, so unfortunately there is no legal right to one. You could approach the dealer to ask if they would be willing to cover the cost of a hire car, but they would be within their rights to refuse. You could try approaching your insurance company if your policy includes a courtesy car, but they may also refuse as this is a repair that is not attached to a claim.
