What's a reliable car for long term ownership?

Is the 1.5 naturally aspirated Honda HR-V from 2018 a reliable choice? I have been burned by a 2017 Civic with a wet belt and do not trust Honda like I used to. Looking at a few other choices such as Subaru Outback, Suzuki Vitara or 2020 on Toyota Yaris in my budget of £18k. Are any of those suitable for long term ownership? I do around 12-15k miles a year.

If reliability is high on your agenda, we'd recommend the Toyota Yaris. Toyota frequently does well in our HonestJohn.co.uk satisfaction index, most recently placing third for reliability out of 35 brands with a score of 94.65%.

Looks great on the outside and isn't too shabby on the inside, either. Hybrid engine is cheap to run and relaxing. Autonomous driving aids make long journeys painless.
