What's a good commuting car for £5000?

I've recently got a new job which means a longer commute and the need for a second car as the public transport network is not reliable enough. I will be driving 10 miles each way across city traffic. As this is a second car I'd like it to be small so I can fit it on my drive and pretty reliable. I was thinking of the VW Up, Fiat 500 or the Skoda Citigo.

Which would you recommend as the most reliable, bearing in mind that I'll be buying a used car with a budget of around £5000?

Many thanks,
Ed

Of those, we'd lean towards the VW Up and Skoda Citigo, which are excellent city cars and easily doable within your budget. Also consider the SEAT Mii, which is the same car in all but branding and light styling differences (all three came off the same production line). A budget of £5000 will give you plenty of choice, with prices starting as low as £2000. It's worth going closer to your budget to get the most recent and lowest mileage example possible, though.
