Car hire insurance rip-off

My daughter hired a car in Portugal last week. After only a few miles the exhaust dropped off. She called the rental company who came out to get the car ,and charged her €900 for excess before they would give a replacement car. She felt intimidated and gave her credit card to pay. What can she do to get her money back?

Nothing. She appears to have paid. And it will be taken that she ripped the exhaust off on a road hump or a bad road even if she didn't.
