Do you need to use Park when stopping on a hill in an automatic?

In an automatic car is it necessary to use the Park position when sitting on a hill temporarily?

An automatic car will hold itself on a hill, though will sometimes require some throttle input. Regardless, it makes sense to use the car's parking brake as good practice.
