Picking a new 4x4

I currently have an S-Max based on your advice and after 3 years of ownership it hasnt missed a beat.

Luckly as I bought new in mid 2008 with a 30% discount it's also only lost about £4,000 in value over three years and 36,000 miles!

I have now moved house though to a very rural area and the S-max is totally useless down farm tracks and muddy roads and it is exceptionally awful in the wet and snow.

I need a seven seater 4x4 and have been looking at the Land Rover Discovery 3, Volvo XC90 and Nissan Pathfinder.

The Pathfinders have loads of kit and are 20-25% cheaper used than the XC90s and Discos but reliabilityindex.co.uk say they are in the bottom five of all used cars for reliability.

I have friends wih both XC90's and Disco's who have spend lots on repairing theirs though.

With a budget of 15-18k which would you recommend? I'd prefer an auto as well.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 diesel. Preferable the chain cam R type from 2010 with speed auto, but the older belt cam 2.2 with 5 speed auto is still okay.
