Do I need to declare an insurance claim I withdrew?

I purchased a Saga Plus car insurance which runs out this month. In the first year of cover I hit a concrete bollard in a car park whilst distracted by another drivers actions. I instigated a claim with Saga but withdrew it a few days later as due to family health problems I needed the car quickly so I had the repair done privately at my own cost.

However the company said the claim would remain on my record for, I believe 3 years in case the car park owner came back with a claim for damages, not withstanding the fact they would have to contact me first and I would have paid their claim privately.

When I ask new insurance companies for a quote do I have to say that I made this claim even though I subsequently withdrew it?

If your insurance company has said that the claim will remain on your record for three years, then we would suggest that you would have to declare this if you enquired about a policy from another insurer, as otherwise it could result in a new policy being declined.
