My car has been given a Cat S write-off status - can I contest this?

My car was given a Cat S write-off without any Inspection. Can I request an inspection? Could the Cat S status be cancelled if the inspection results were favourable?

You can challenge your insurers decision to write off your car, but once the marker has been placed against the vehicle it is not possible to have this changed. You can also complain to the Financial Services Ombudsman if you think you have been treated poorly by your insurer. As you car has been given a Category S marker it can be repaired and returned to the road.

What do I have to do to put my Cat S write off back on the road? Do I have to contact the DVLA and get it re-registered? I assume I need to tell my insurance company?
