Do runflat tyres wear quicker than normal tyres?

My MINI Cooper has runflat tyres. I have just had the first service after two years at 9200 miles. The tread on the front tyres is now circa 3mm and the rear set is at circa 5mm. The wear seems excessive for low mileage, is the rubber on run flat tyres prone to wear quickly?

We would expect the front tyres on a front-wheel-drive car to wear more quickly than the rears, but we would expect them to last more than 10,000 miles. 3mm is the point of change generally recommended to ensure best performance.

Runflat tyres should wear no more quickly than conventional tyres, so unless your driving style is particularly aggressive we would recommend having four-wheel alignment on your MINI to ensure everything is set as it should be.
