My mileage has dropped, should I switch to a petrol car?

I have a 2017 Nissan N-Connecta 1.5DCI with 48,000 miles on the clock. Due to a change in circumstances I no longer need to make a 20-mile journey twice a day, most journeys will be 2-5 miles, except for the occasional day trip.

Along with this, I have been advised by my garage, that all four tyres, discs and brake pads will need changing in the next 6 months and at the cars fifth service the cam belt will need changing. All this amounts to about £1,700-plus.

Bearing in mind my annual mileage will now be about 6,000-8,000 miles, would my best option be to trade in for a petrol car?

I would be happy to have something a little smaller but would still like an SUV if possible.

The Qashqai is worth, I believe, about £11,000 trade in and I could add about £5,000 to that.

Yes, a petrol sounds like it'd suit your needs better, and all the upcoming work required to keep your Qashqai roadworthy means now could be a good time to change. We'd recommend a Kia Sportage with the 1.6-litre petrol engine (ideally the more powerful T-GDi unit, but the standard engine is fine if you mainly drive around town). A Skoda Karoq would be a good alternative.
