Kia Venga petrol tank corrosion - should the dealer pay for the repair?

My Kia Venga is exactly eight years old, so one year beyond its manufacturer warranty. Nevertheless, am I unreasonable to think that Kia should have a responsibility for the repairs to my car's petrol tank corrosion? I've been quoted £629 for the repair.

If the car has a full dealer stamped service history then I would expect the dealer to make an application for a 'goodwill payment' from Kia UK. But neither the dealer that sold you the car or the manufacturer has any legal responsibility for a car that is eight years old.

It may be cheaper to take the car to an independent Kia specialist and pay for the repair. The quality of the work will be just as good as your local Kia dealer but the repair cost will be 20-30% lower.
