Gearless worrier

I have a three and a half year old Mercedes C Class. 3 times since year one I have reported a loss of upchanging of gears. Each service they said there was no fault found. My car has done 31,500 miles and was serviced last week. Now they say I have a fault with the gearbox and repairs will cost £514.63. I said I am sure this fault has been there since year one. They did agree this was why my gears were not changing but as warranty was out in March I now had to pay. I think it is unfair I have to pay as I reported 3 times during warranty. Now I have a letter from Mecedes Swansea securing me a goodwill contribution towards cost of £271.11. I am a 70yr old widow and wonder if this is the reason they will not pay the full cost or have they made a fair offer?

You have a choice. Accept the £271.11. Or take the matter up with www.motorindustrycodes.co.uk Or take the matter to the Small Claims Track of the County Court, alleging that the dealer twice failed to repair the fault while the car was under warranty and has waited until it was out of warranty to charge you for the repair that should have been free. I'd say best way to go would be Motor Codes.
