Living in tread

For the second time in six months I have suffered a puncture in a runflat tyre on my BMW 1 Series. I have been driving for 46 years and prior to 2009 my puncture count was a mere 4. I have two questions: Are run-flat tyres more susceptible to punctures? Can they be repaired? At £114 a time my motoring is becoming expensive.

They should be less susceptible to punctures. If the puncture is in the tread they can usually be repaired, but the carcass has to be inspected first and preferably x-rayed, which involves removing it from the rim. By the time the tyre fitter has done that he thinks he might as well fit a new tyre. He'd probably have to charge you £40 for fixing the puncture, inspecting the tyre and refitting it. That's what happens.
