Do I require an International Driving Permit if I'm hiring a car in Italy in September?

I have a holiday booked for Italy in September this year. I intend to hire a car as the resort hotel is quite a distance from the airport and private transfers are expensive. Do I require an International Driving Permit as the UK will still be a member of the EU at the time I am travelling?

Given that the UK will still be part of the EU, you will not require an International Driving Permit before 31 October. But it might be an idea to organise your own excess insurance before you travel, as the deals offered by hire car firms can be quite expensive:
