  • Ford Ka 1.3l, R Reg (1998) - Ford Ka Braking Issue 25 Jun 2016 (Forum)
A week later he took it to Kwik Fit to fit a new back box on the exhaust and they said the n/s front wheel was red hot, he took it to another garage as he couldn't get hold of his mate, (and still can't), they had it a week and they changed the calipers and master cylinder but the brakes were still binding, they didn't know what else to do so gave it back to him with the brakes still binding and suggested he go to a Ford dealer who might be able to help but he is reluctant to do that as the costs are now mounting and cant really afford the charges.
  • Turbo Health 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The horror stories of death by turbo failure are not a nice thought therefore i'm looking for advice. My turbo seems to "spool" up from around 1.6krpm with max torque delivered between 2k and 2.5krpm with max power delivered at 3.6krpm. After 3k miles i find i mainly drive between 1.8 and 2.4k rpm with the occasional burst up to max power. Can i assume that driving within this range my turbo is constantly in use; if so should i be concerned about this if i am to keep the turbo in good shape for years to come?

  • Audi A4/BMW 3 - Seeking for a new long-term car 7 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Hello, It'll 10 years this January since I've been driving my Ford Fiesta 1.25 MK7. I'm saving up money now, hoping to find a suitable replacement that would last me for another period of 10 years. My max budget is maximum £10k (taking into account Fiesta P/X), and I would look to drive around 7k miles/annum.
  • Best Used 5-seat MPV? 17 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Pefer petrol to diesel Don't need high top speed or amazing performance We keep our cars for about 8 years -- our current Ford C-max Style is 2007. We have been quite happy with it, so would go for one again possibly. We like a versatile vehicle which we can take our friends in -- so good legroom in the back for adults is important.
  • Ford Mondeo MK2 - Mondeo MK2 can feel knocking through brake pedal 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I am reasonably mechanically minded and have checked this on the net including this site and basically I have eliminated most common causes.. 1) Both drive shafts have been replaced with new ones (the n/s driveshaft had a knackered cv joint) 2) Both bottom arms have been replaced with new (o/s balljoint had slight play) 3) New discs & pads been fitted I have even tried swapping both front hubs from one of my mates who runs a scrappy to eliminate wheel bearing problems and they seem fine.

  • small car mpg 27 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I do 60 plus miles a day (80%motorway).small/medium size hatchbacks are fine. I am tempted by a celerio(60mpg i believe) id probably do 13k/14k a year. My max budget is 3.5k but id prefer 2.5k(celerio not possible at this price) Any other suggestions, I dont really want anything earlier than 2011, max 80k mileage and 50 plus mpg. Hopefully a reliable motor for 2.5k/3k is possible.
  • Honda Accord MK 6 - Fast Idle Test : Fail : CO 5 May 2019 (Forum)
Took my mk6 Honda for MOT this week, overall it passed, but examiner said that he doubt it will pass next year on account of failing the Fast Idle Test. Co was measured as 0.41 % vol , (Limits max are 0.2)   Second Fast idle test CO came in at 0.01 % vol   Was advised it could be the lambda sensor or cat that needs changing.   Lambda came in at 1.026 (Limits: min 0.970 , Max: 1.030)   Any advise on this would be appreciated.

  • Mondeo Fuel Gauge 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
When I bought the Mondeo (1997 2 litre Model) the guy told me he had filled it up with fuel. I now know that he is a habitual liar. The fuel guage reads MAX all the time, even with ignition off. Is the car full of fuel or is it just shorting out causing it to read max? I guess my main question is; Should the fuel gauge return to 'empty' with the ignition off.
  • Tyre speed ratings 12 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The original tyres were a "W" rating but I have been supplied with "V" rated tyres. V rated are to a max speed of 149 mph W are for a max speed of 168 mph My car will only do 127 mph. I cannot find any reference to the speed rating in the VW manual. Am I legal? My main concern is the insurance companies.
  • Ford Transit Custom - Bought via auction without V5 unable to Tax & MOT 7 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Bought via auction without V5 as a CAT S write off. I have insured the van however have just realised that I cannot Tax and MOT it as I do not have the V5 or the previous sellers details. So my questions are - 1 - do I need to wait 6 weeks (or longer during covid) for the V62 postal application to DVLA for a log book to run it course or is there a more efficient way for this to happen.

  • Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 06 Central Locking - Single Door vs.Global unlock 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I?ve just been given an 06 Passat as a pool car and it?s central locking is two-stage, the first click unlocks the drivers door, the second click unlocks all the doors. I know in my ford you could disable the one-door unlocking so that all doors opened on the first click.
