  Over the last couple of weeks it takes me two or three tries to start my aging S-Max. I'm wondering what the problem might be. It turns over but then fails to fire. Usually on the 2nd and recently more commonly 3rd try it starts. I've noticed that if I leave the ignition at the same position for the pre-heat thing for five extra seconds after the pre-heat light goes off, it appears to help.

  I test drove a 2.2 diesel (200PS)  S-Max today.  6 months old, 2000 miles. At the end of a 10 minute drive the fan stayed on for at least 5 minutes and there was an "enginey" smell. The salesman assured me the fan staying on was normal and the smell was due to the way the engine had been cleaned.
