Why don't you recommend the 1.8 TDCI engine in the Ford S-Max?

I frequently see you recommend the Ford S-Max, but always the reference to the 1.8 TDCi 2006-09 is negative. This week it was "avoid at all costs". Can you point me to somewhere on your site where you've explained why, as it is the one I want to buy?

Because the origin of its diesel engine is the 1.6 diesel fitted to the Fiesta in 1983 and updated in various ways since, which is still basically an old engine. The 1.6 and 2.0 Ford diesels are Peugeot-developed modern engines built at Dagenham, and now, in their latest 2.2 litre format, developing up to 200PS.
