  • The MoT Files - the full story 13 May 2012 (News)
The performance of Swedish brand Volvo raised a few eyebrows though with a pass rate of only 57.4 per cent, less than the likes of Ford and Volkswagen. We expected it to be considerably higher given the typical Volvo owner. When it came to analysing individual models we set a minimum of 2000 MoTs per year. Otherwise the results would be dominated by high end cars like Aston Martins and Bentleys of which you’d expect a high success rate given their price tag and the fact that their owners, you’d imagine, take great care of them.

  • 4x4s spotted in the classifieds 20 Jul 2011 (News)
Luxurious, well built, speedy, stable on the road and more than capable off it, the Range Rover is arguably one of the finest vehicles ever made. And yet you can have a 2002 model for less than a new Ford Focus... granted it’ll cost a lot more to run than a Focus, but that’s beside the point. This model is a TD6, so it’s more economical than the big petrol V8, returning 25mpg on the combined cycle.

  • Big Event at Castle Combe Next Weekend 6 Aug 2011 (News)
All three championships have a number of drivers capable of taking top honours, but with only two rounds left after this weekend, all of them will be looking to maximise their points, with the caveat that reliability can be as important as speed. Retaining a healthy but still vulnerable lead in the Castle Combe Formula Ford 1600 championship is Rob Hall in the Swift SC10. In theory, there are a dozen drivers who could mathematically still depose him, but in reality, the fight is between a handful of contenders. Run by the Swift Cooper team next door to the circuit, Hall's car/driver speed 'combo', has rarely been exceeded this year, the last time being at the previous meeting courtesy of the 'guesting' Ben Norton from Bratton.
