Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1997 1.4CL - Clattery Transmission 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The clattering only became audible after a 100 mile motorway run a month or so ago.... {No need to repeat what you've already selected from the drop down menus as this automatically gets included within the subject header} -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Auxillary/fan belts 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm not sure what the name is, but its the belt that drives the power steering, alternator etc. The haynes manual said its an easy job, has an automatic tensioner and should be changed every year. The current belt has done over 40k. I'm quite a diy person myself but it looks very awkward to change. It looks "OK" from the bonnet and there are no visual or audible signs its about to go. -
Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - 2.2 Diesel Tiptronic - Any tales of woe? 7 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking for a nearly new 4x4 diesel automatic, and am finding that there are few cars that fit the bill (or my pocket). Short-listed are the Land Cruiser Prado 3.0D (2007/8), or, if I can find one in my budget, a BMW X3 (2006/7). Other than a Hyundai/Kia, the only other vehicle that fits the brief seems to be a Freelander 2. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.25 Fast Idle and not reving over 4000 rpm 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi Just purchased a small runabout for my Wife and the car is a Ford Fiesta 1.25 l zetec automatic R reg, the car runs fine except, when at a standstill you put it into Drive it sometimes cuts out and the idle appears to be fast also at a standstill if you rev the engine in Park or Neutral the revs appear to be limited and do not go past 4000rpm, any ideas, electrical or a gearbox problem, due to this if you press the accelerator to the flooor in drive there is no kick down, although its the newer gearbox version of the CVT. -
Car choice? Disabled OAP 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Looking for some help on a choice of car for my 81 year old mum, who's recently left hospital with a knackered left leg and severely decreased mobility. She's now going to need a small automatic, five door car with enough space for a fold-up wheelchair if she eventually needs one. Her current car is a 02 1.0l five door Yaris with 60k on the clock, and she'd like something similar about two years old of a similar size. -
RIP Vespa PX 28 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Italian company Piaggio said that tightening emission legislation sounded the death-knell on the 30-year-old, manually-geared bike - and that all models would now be automatic. More here: http://tinyurl.com/5w637p (links to The Telegraph) And after having a few of them pass me in Southsea on Sunday, I can quite understand why - noisy, stinky, horrible things. -

Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 05 1.4 Loss of power when accelerating from roun 12 May 2008 (Forum)
I have recently bought a used Fabia. It is an automatic, and intermittently will not pick up revs after slowing down for traffic lights etc. The engine does not cut out, the rev counter shows 900 rpm, but there is no forward motion other than from residual speed. -
Audi A4 B8 (2008 - ) - air conditioning. 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Both of us were actually very impressed with what we saw. I am puzzled about the different terms used for climate control. In Dublin they have " Automatic air conditioning ,with sun sensor". In the UK they have "Cimate control". Please can somebody help? I have had "Climate control"with my excellent but ageing Seat and I love it and wouldn't want anything inferior. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 zetec auto limited revving & loss of power 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1996 ford fiesta 1.25 ghia zetec automatic and each time i rev the engine the rev meter doesn't never goes beyond 3000 and most times the car loses power even though i've got my foot right down on the accelerator, then all of a sudden it picks up again. the car has been serviced and i have added injector cleaner but still the problem persist. i will appreciate it if anyone has a similar problem on here and how did you deal with it. -
Subaru Justy (1989 - 1996) - 1994 1100cc Part number help please? 5 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Have just been on the phone to my nearest Subaru dealer ( 27 miles away ) re price and availability of the sump gasket and oil filter unit used on the automatic gearbox of the ECVT model of the above car. Dealer came back with part number for the gasket, 411605600 but claimed that there is no oil filter unit on his microfiche. Vehilcle is a 1994 on an L plate but I do not have the VIN at this time. -

Fog driving 14 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Including a learner driver with an "experienced" teacher. Many cars are fitted with lights that automatically illuminate in such conditions. Maybe its time to make all cars have the facility fitted compulsoraly, or drive around with dipped lights on all the time, for those dumb enough to forget. There is no excuse for any driver to motor along in reduced visibility without their headlights on. -
Volkswagen Jetta (2006 - ) - 06- 170bhp TSi DSG axle tramp. 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Would anyone think that this is a function of having a too heavy right foot or something more intrinsically wrong with, say, the automatic gearbox set-up? He is going back to the dealers on Thursday to have someone look into this, along with a few other niggles that have arisen since he took delivery late last year. Left in Discussion for now - following a subject line makeover. -
telepeage 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Stuck to windscreen in front of the rear view mirror and it worked brilliantly. The stories that you can drive up to the barrier at 50 mph are not true - it did open automatically but I was in second gear and it only opened when I got to within 10m. A very useful device. When you get yours ask for two or three - I gave one as a Xmas present to my ageing father who still visits France regularly. -
Wrong type of ATF on my old Honda? 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
On my automatic transmission change interval, my mechanic put 2.5 metric liters of Mobil 320 Dexron IIIg in my 1990 Honda Civic(same drivetrain with 1990 Concerto). Idiot said it is the right type. I came home and looked up to manual, it writes "use Dexron or Dexron II". -
Vectra B 2.0 16v - Best oil? 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Running a dear old Vectra B 2.0 16v automatic, facelift ie with the later type of XE engine (ie petrol) with balancer shaft. Only does about 7000 miles per year, and since 6 months old I have specified fully synthetic engine oil when serviced each year. -
Mercedes E430 ESP light. 10 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The car is now in limp mode with the ESP warning light illuminated on the dash. It won't rev and will just crawl along in gear(automatic transmission, not sequential). Anything simple we can look at? Could the garage have disturbed the self leveling suspension by jacking it up? It was moved around the workshop only with 4 bolts instead of 5 holding the wheels on.
