  £9,800 for a 22k mile 1.9TD Ambiente DSG estate, £11,400 for a 5k mile 06 2.0TDI 140 Elegance and a strong £14,550 for a 2k mile 07 2.0TDI 120 Laurent & Klement DSG estate. On the other hand I’ve never seen a running MGF sell for as little as £1,425. This one was a 96P with 51,000 warranted miles. Here’s the list. As usual, ‘s’ means sold. ‘p’ means top provisional bid, ‘n/s’ means not sold.

  VAT RELIEF FOR THE DISABLED 21 Jul 2001 (News)
  To qualify for the relief the adapted vehicle must be for domestic or personal use and not be used for commercial or business purposes. This means that vehicles owned and run by a business do not qualify for the VAT relief regardless of who uses them or how they have been adapted. Disabled people who have purchased adapted vehicles at the zero rate may use these vehicles in their work capacity where this is incidental to their main use as a private vehicle.

  MG Rover Group engineers have tuned the chassis, which has all-independent coil sprung suspension (McPherson strut front, semi-trailing arms at the rear), specifying 14 inch by 5J wheels and 175/60R 14 tyres, a lower ride height and revised damper and spring rates to give an optimised ride and handling balance. Smooth running is ensured by the fully counterbalanced crankshaft running in five main bearings, with a deep-skirted crankcase extending well below the crankshaft centreline for greater strength and stiffness. As part of the CityRover specification, engineers have added a hydraulic engine mount for enhanced refinement.

  Also in action on BTCC weekend at Croft (18-19 June) will be a further nine races for categories run by thriving Leeds-based UK sportscar manufacturer Ginetta with its Junior and GT Supercup championships plus Renault's Formula Renault single-seater and Clio Cup saloon car series. The same Formula Renault championship has in recent years produced Formula 1 stars such as Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton, Heikki Kovalainen and Paul di Resta and fans at Croft could just be seeing another young hotshot making his or her way to the top – among those on the grid notably is Josh Hill, son of 1996 F1 World Champion Damon Hill while contesting the Clio Cup is Lewis Hamilton's younger brother Nicolas in his debut season of racing.

  The most exciting bidding of the day was for a 1933 Dodge Wrecker, seemingly hauled out of the desert near Paton, New Mexico, and not having run for 50 years. (The strange round thing on the side in some photos is actually part of the winch that didn't quite fit within the rear sides.) Completely covered in surface rust, but with no holes that I could see, it was the most atmospheric vehicle on sale and, though estimated at a low £1,000 to £3,000, romped away to sell for £10,200 (£11,424 with 10% commission + VAT).

    With SpeedStart, the driver can leave the vehicle in gear and no matter how low the engine revs an instant restart is achieved by simply coming off the brake pedal; and in less time than it takes the driver to move his foot to the accelerator the engine is running again. “The motorist needs a seamless integration of technology and the industry needs cost-effective solutions,” says CPT’s senior manager for micro-hybrids Mike Dowsett, who will attend the LCV 2010 event with SpeedStart principal engineer Toby Heason.

An 06 Megane CC had looked good value at an opening bid of £4,500 and still sensible at £5,200, at which point the Internet bidders dropped out.

  Budget Bites into Big Car Bids At Auction Today 24 Apr 2008 (News)
  The SL350 didn’t sell to a top bid of £29,500, £13,100 bought the Phaeton, £32,600 took home the 630CI, £17,200 was enough for the XC90 and £15,600 put the Vianos back on the airport taxi run. Two 2007/57 Vectra 1.9CDTI Exclusives each with 11k miles failed to sell for £7,200, a 52k mile 05 Focus 1.6TDCI 110 LX saw a top bid of £5,000. Another with 80k miles sold for £4,250, while a 58k mile 2006/55 Xsara Picasso 1.6HDI stuck at £4,000.

  Sure-Sell Charade makes £700 over book at auction today 14 Sep 2007 (News)
  Straight, it booked at £12,250, minus about £3k for the miles. But either the vendor pushed the auctioneer to run it to an unviable £7,100, or there were simply no bids. When a clean 33k mile 05/55 Alhambra TDI 115 sold for £9,500 there was no way that the wreck was worth taking on for more than £4,500.

  This car was presented in a garden full of other off-roaders, with large chromed bull-bars and was described as being only just run in with well over 160k miles on the clock. It was a diesel 97P Terrano II which otherwise looked okay. However, the presentation of the ad would have deterred some buyers. It was a shame as the seller’s limited feedback would have suggested he was someone who might be a good person to do business with.

  Which explains why this repossessed 11k mile 07 2.0TFSI (with leather) made very nearly what you’d pay for a new one. Now, of course, it could have been run to £24,700 by a trader working for an Audi dealer, just to make sure none slipped through the net too cheaply. But it’s the first new model TT I’ve seen at open auction so we have to take that £24,700 as the money.

  With Barrett Jackson car auctions starting at 10.00am Arizona time, 8 hours behind the UK, most of these sales are taking place while Brits are in bed. But Arizona is 14 hours behind Thai time, which means they start at midnight and run to midday next day.
