SEAT IBIZA MK 4 - SEAT IBIZA MK4 - Brake fluid needs changing? 16 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Hi Folks I have had a reminder from my local dealer that the car brake fluid needs changing. They claim that the fluid needs to be changed every 2 years. However, when I am driving, the foot and hand brake seem to be fine. Do you think the fluid does really need changing or is it a money making exercise? -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa C rear brake imbalance 19 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Hi there, My Corsa recently failed its MOT, due to a 'significant L - R imbalance' on the rear brakes. Apparently this could be a brake compensator valve, or possibly the master cylinder. I was surprised to hear that it could be the master cylinder, as I thought that supplied hydraulic pressure to the entire system, the distribution to individual wheels being undertaken by the proportioning/compensator valves or whatever? -
Megane 2008 - Pas front brake hissing after disc/pad replacement 28 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Hi, Had someone to replace pads and discs all around today. Have noticed when the ignition is on and I press the brake pedal that there is a noise which sounds exactly like a bicycle pump coming from the passenger side front footwell. Only happens when I press the brake down. Not hvingg an idea about cars....any ideas? -
BMW 1series diesel - Brake servo problems 23 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hi I've a question regarding brake servo on my car. I seem to be losing assistance from servo if I use the brakes quickly in succession. I've pulled off the vacuum pipe going into the servo and when suck through it I can't get a vacuum just keep drawing air. -
Renault Grand Scenic 2011 - Brakes 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Had my car MOT'd in December which it passed but came away with the note that the Brake Pads would probably need replacing soon. I am getting the message Error on Parking Brake would one affect the other? As I am Female I am sorry to say that I never feel Garages are telling me the truth when I ask what really needs doing any advice would be appreciated. -
Audi A4 - Audi A4 Electronic Brake 3 May 2014 (Forum)
The electronic parking brake on my 2008 2ltr diesel model has developed a fault. The automatic release facility no longer works, so I have to use manual release by depressing the foot brake, this is tricky when on a slope. I have been told by my independent Audi garage that the clutch cylinder will need to be replaced as the faulty switch is part of it. -
Smart Fortwo - front brakes both seized 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
What would cause both front brakes to seize when the engine is running? If i open thebleed nipple to release the pressure, the wheel frees up but without the bleed nipple open, the pistons wont push in. I thought it might be te servo but the rear wheels are fine which is really odd at as i beleive these cars operate a dual line braking system. -
Brake lights on all the time 16 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I have just driven home from work and I passed a Merc which had brake lights on and the little bar of lights in the back window too. Most off-putting as you approach as it makes you think there's a hazard/cutting up etc ahead. How can he have managed that?! Wiring may have gone awry but can you drive an automatic with the 'brake' still on? -
Honda CRV-EX Auto. 2009 - Honda CRV - excessive rear brake noise 30 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Excessive noise from rear wheels when braking. Car has <7,000 miles on it and has made the noise since new. Since the noise only occurs when braking it's presumably unlikely to be a differential problem. Right? Also, the Honda dealer has looked at the discs amd pads and reckons they're O.K. -
Electric parking brakes and the driving test 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm sure I have read somewhere that an 'L' driver cannot take the DSA driving test in a car fitted with an 'automatic release' electric parking brake (eg some Renaults, Citroens, etc) because of the way in which these brakes simplify a hill start. You just press the pedal and go. I can find no reference to this on the DSA website, however. Can anyone confirm this please -- if it is so, I would apreciate chapter and verse. -
Do I need to replace a PAIR of brake hoses? 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
hi, do i need to replace a pair of brake hoses? the mot advised that one of the brake hoses is deteriorated. ive been on a 25 mile round trip to pick up a pair but they only had one. if i have to replace both ill swallow it up and go back, but if it wont affect the performance or safety ill just swap the deteriorated hose. incidentally ill bleed both sides regardless. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2000 1.4 rear brake lights not working 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
As the title says i have noticed the rear brake lights (all 3) are not working, all other light are ok. According to the manual they appears to be no fuses for the rear brake lights I have had a look at the bulbs on the nearside they look fine- surely not all 3 would not go at the same time would they Can anyone point me in the right direction -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.8 Stalling when braking 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It has happened a few times whilst i've had the car, usually at night when its not yet warmed. It usually happens, if it does, coming up to roundabouts when braking from 60-70 mph, but not hard. I brake smoothly, put the clutch down when the revs are getting towards 1200-1300 RPM but it still stalls. Any idea's what it could be? -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - 2003 1.6 Brake Wear Sensor 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
A friend of mine has a 2003 Mini Cooper S which is equipped with a brake pad wear sensors. The pads have plenty of life left in them but the sensor is indicating that they need replaced. A mechanic has checked the brakes and the connections for the wear sensors but everything seems fine. -
Volvo S80 - Clicking noise from brakes 12 May 2007 (Forum)
There does not appear to be anything wrong with the brakes apart from the annoying noise. -
Accord Brakes 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Past couple of days the brakes on my 04 Accord have started making a horrible metal grinding sound. I understand that this is the pad wear indicators. But If I listen very hard, the sound can be heard constantly. Would this mean the brakes are 'binding' - not fully releasing? -
Brake squeal - Citroen C5 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)
This is probably a daft question, but can somebody explain why some cars have terrible brake sqeal whilst others don't. My hitherto faultless 2003 C5 is starting to develop a really annoying squeal on normal smooth braking from about 10 mph to rest, especially in hot weather. There's plenty of wear left on the pads and discs so the dealer's not prepared to do anything, even under guarantee. -
Xantia Antilock Braking System 31 May 2006 (Forum)
Well for the next three days it did come on and stay on steady. But then after a harsh brake the warning dissappeared. How can I be sure that the Antilock is working ok. -
Brake Linings? 13 Feb 2006 (Forum)
My young friend is enjoying his 1992 Toyota Corolla but is hearing a noise from front end when braking hard which suggests need for replacement brake linings and perhaps even new discs. He has not needed yet to establish a relationship with a reliable local garage so is wondering whether to 'go in blind' to whichever one is nearest to him or to use a national chain. -
Golf Brake Discs 2 Dec 2005 (Forum)
My 4 year old Golf GTI has just failed its MOT due to 'excessive pitting' to all of the brake discs. The brake efficiency and balance passed OK. When I was shown the discs each one had 10-15mm of corrsion on the inside of the discs near the edge. Was the failure warranted? I have I got grounds for appeal?
