    Today I used a Gunson battery/alternator tester and it reported the battery and alternator were fine including with the lights on main-beam, fan on max, rear screen heater on. Multimerter reading was 13.4v. The battery was replaced by the RAC about 4 years ago when the old one failed, I peeled off the RAC label and its branded as an Exide Expander, is this a Silver Calcium battery, is one required?

  My Grandads 1.9 dci 130 2005 Renault Laguna is stood alot and hasn't had much use in the last 6 months. We started getting intermittent starting issues over the last few months. We replaced the battery for brand new and today I have put a brand new starter motor on it. It still refuses to start 90% of the time.  Checking battery voltage, with no card in the slot its' between 12.4 and 12.5v  As soon as I put the card in the slot which does all it's vehicle checks (abs, airbags, starts the glow plugs) the volts drop to 11.4 to 11.3v.

   No EGR/DPF/DMF or moving parts in an ICE. There are stories of early Leafs doing 300k+ as taxis with minimal battery degradation and that will only improve as battery tech moves on.   Assuming that we’re still buying and owning cars in 20 odd years (rather than renting them/sharing them as and when needed), I think my frequency of changing cars will only decrease.

  Whereupon I enquired and was told the car did not have an alternator! and that I would need to trickle charge the parallel battery (as opposed to the high voltage drive assist hybrid bat.) it was 26 hrs. before (my) Halfords charger's light turned from yellow to green!  The car was passed to our Son-in-law who has had no further issues (he uses it on a daily basis).

    It could be the cold start which is faulty 7.  IT COULD DEFINITELY NOT BE THE BATTERY, A BATTERY IS ONLY THERE TO GIVE POWER TO THE ENGINE TO TURN

  Hi thereThis car has, until now, been the most reliable that I have ever owned, however it decided to die on me, I thought that pahaps I had run out of fuel, as it was showing low before this and the orange fuel light had come on, so went and bought some more and put it in, however she still will not go, tried priming the filter,( this is bolted to the battery housing, and has a primer on top) but the primer is drawing little or no fuel through, just to make sure that it is a definate fuel starvation problem, I filled the rubber inlet pipe from the filter to the engine manually, and she fired up right away, this morning, i took off the filter unit, and it had some fuel in it, but not full, I am now at the stage where I am left with the fuel pipe sticking up, but not going to anywhere, I flattened the battery whilst trying various things, so have now taken it off and put it on charge.As a chef I am not the best mechanic, however I can turn my hands to most things, I just wanted to ask, when I re connect the battery, and turn the engine should I see fuel being pumped up through the fuel pipe...?

  I went out to the car to go to work and found that it would not start, there was some life in the battery as the ignition was working and the radio / lights wer working but it would not start. I have been told by the dealer it is my phone that is draining the battery of the car and a software update is on its way which will fix this.

  If I leave it for a bit then start it again no smoke - and starts fine. "Pig-tails" don't take longer than ordinary to go out. Battery voltage from cold this morning (09:00) was 12.7v. I got it going then drove it for about 40-50 mins (had to drop the maid to work) and left it running whilst I checked the voltage on the battery.

  The best way of resolving issues with Mondeo Central Locking is firstly to determine whether it's the remote or the Central Locking unit. Basically check the battery in the remote and replace if necessary. If the remote battery is good and the system partly works then the cure that I use is to simply disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 seconds or so and then reconnect it.

  Turned off alarm under bonnet. All the warning lights come on but starter motor is dead. Youngest son arrives says battery done for. Hell it`s only 7 and a half years old !! Stuck jump leads on and off she went. Ran around a bit to charge battery. Problem is the red light that flashes when the alarm is armed now glows continuously with the ignition on or off but at least the screaming has stopped.
