  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.8 Oil leaks 27 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I normally don't do anything about it unless its major. Should it be checked out and what are the likely causes - worn gasket cover etc? And can it lead to long term damage to engine or any components (if I keep the oil topped up)?

I have been informed it smells of petrol when it does - which figures! Any ideas? The intermittent thing leads me towards a sensor or something, rather than any regular service item? Cheers Dave

I would like to buy genuine spares all the time but don't like to argue If I think the price is very high. 9 times out of ten I'll use a top quailty part from elsewhere just because I know in advance what it's going to cost. Want to check plug leads at the moment.
  • Mercedes Benz A-Class W169 (2005 - ) - 05 1.7 misfire on no 2 cylinder 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
This petrol merc has a misfire on no 2 cylinder, compression is good, coil packs and plug leads all good. using the laptop all seems to function as it should but it counts the misfires and then puts the management light on. The local wizboys are stumped ,and now we have removed the head to check for problems to no avail .
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Coolant temperature sensor 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I know there is one built into the thermostat housing, but not sure whether this is for guage, ECU or both. The car can be quite difficult to start and lumpy when cold, but fine when warmed up. Leads, plugs, battery etc look OK. Temperature guage reads OK.
  • Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - Fix it or trade it? 20 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Last year the water pump bearing seized which cost 800 for new pump/cam belt , this week it started running rough and garage have checked spark plugs.ht leads, distributer cap which are all ok but theres low pressure in 4th cylinder so they think its either head gasket or the heads knackered . Estimated cost to fix 1200 quid if it needs a new head. So do i fix it or just trade it in?

  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Zetec 1.25 misfire 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
But if you try and drive it misfires under load .Whan I first got it it misfired on tick over so I changed the usual plugs, leads and the coil pack, which cured the misfire on tick over but not on initial throttle openings or under load. The vehicle has been back to Ford but they cannot find anything wrong on there diagnostic machine.

  • Cars that became TV stars 19 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Del boy's Reliant Regal was another which attained a fame way and above it's humble station in life by becomming almost a lead character in the show. Are there any other cars which it is impossible to think of without a TV show or movie automatically appearing in the same thought bubble? --

Local dealer states the control pad is at fault - replacement cost for control pad is £50........except additional programming/diagnostics for key coding whacks the total price up to just over £150!!
  • Avoiding using the wrong fuel 22 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Despite colour codes and different size nozzles etc, it's pretty obvious that passive methods of avoiding using the wrong fuel on forecourts aren't working. What leads to the worse consequences - putting petrol in a diesel car, or diesel in a petrol car? I am looking for a used car - but there's no way of knowing about errors made in its refuelling history. Why is it not possible to have a proximity buzzer/alarm that sounds (either on the car or the fuel pump) when the wrong nozzle is waved within a foot or so of the filler pipe?
  • Peugeot 307 knocking 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I have a knocking on a peugeot 307 hdi its a 52 plate. it seems to be coming from the front end but this could be decieving, as when you sit on the drivers side it sounds like it is that side. but also when you sit on the passenger side it sounds that side too. You can only hear it when you go over bumps, which leads me to think it might be suspension related. i have checked what i can think of but to no avail. Any tips or pointers would be gratefully received. Cheers, Mark
  • Citroen ZX 1.9i Lumpy Acceleration 13 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Picked up what I thought to be a bargain - dusty zx 1.9i 1991 48k on the clock with mots to back it up. test drove really well. after having it a couple of weeks and opening her up a fair bit I have now noticed town driving and low rev acceleration to be lumpy. changed plugs and ht leads but wonder is it worth trying the dist cap/rotor arm? they seem fine to look at, but maybe not underclose inspection. its a bit odd as it was fine and now isn't!!! HELP!!

I was amazed at the price!! £424 for two tyres, I know they are pretty big 255/45/18 but its seems very steep to me?? which leads me to the question... What type of profit are Kwik Fit, ATS, main dealers etc making from tyres? the mark up must be plenty!! Thanks Lee
