  • Diesel fuel cetane ratings 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Do modern diesels engines have an adaptable engine management system, that can adapt to the cetane rating of the fuel in the tank? Will a higher cetane diesel fuel only give performance and/or economy benefits, if the engine is able to adapt to it? If so, when was this technology introduced? Cheers, Rich.
  • mondeo td bleeding fuel lines 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have just installed a fuel injection pump, the car will not start it just turns over. I think it could be air in the system as I have renewed the fuel pipes as well.i have tried to bleed it but all I do is flatten the battery, is there a sequence for bleeding air out of the system or can someone help me?
  • On board computer & fuel consumption. 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi - I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that I've been reading these fora that there's a lot of suspicion re. over optimistic fuel consumption read outs. Why is this? How big is the margin of error? Am I missing something very simple ie. the computer doesn't log fuel used on tick over when stationary?

Any pointers where the fuel filter is on a 86 Golf GTI 8v???!! I've temporarily lost my Haynes manual and its been a LONG time since I last changed it!! Also is it still best practise to remove the fuse of the fuel pump and run the car till it stops?
  • Pug 307 2.0l 110bhp "01 - Hdi 2.0l not starting air in fuel lines 14 Nov 2016 (Forum)
So my old car 110k the other day she just lost power and died. wouldn't start up again. its been gradually getting worse at starting in the morning. It now will only start if i pump the fuel 'grenade' pump untill its hard and even then it will only run for a few seconds. there is a lot of air in the fuel lines to the fuel filter from the 'grenade' and also to the fuel pump from the fuel filter there is air. iv tried loosing the injectors and bleeding some fuel through and tightening them but no luck.

  • all - Synthetic fuels 31 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Germany is asking the EU to urgently review their ban on petrol and diesel engines and  to consider running these cars on E-fuels.  The engines would still emit carbon at the exhaust but a carbon offset at production of the new fuel would offset this.  A device fitted to the engines would not allow the cars to run on petrol or diesel.
  • Ford Fiesta - Fiesta tdci fuel leak 3 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Hi, Last couple of days I've been smelling diesel through the fans when stationary and low speed. I had the injector seals replaced last year there doesn't seem to be as much fuel this time. The leak seems to be coming from the small fuel pipe into the top of the inject, the one with the little metal clip on. It's on injector two so has a join in it. It's this easy to replace, I'm not even sure what it's called, part of the fuel rail I guess and probably comes with all the other pipes.

  • 1.2 Polo (05 plate) - Help with Fuel Filter 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The fuel filter doesn't have a built in regulator...that's on the pump in the tank. I was just wondering if the higher 4 bar rating will cause any problems with fuel pressure etc.?
  • peugeot 306 hdi - no fuel out of high presure pump 19 Aug 2010 (Forum)
any help please. i have a 306 hdi that suddenly would not start. i have found there is no fuel comming from the pump driven by the cambelt. low presure pump working in tank. fuel being deliverd to filter and main pump but not comming out of pump to common rail and injectors. before taking the drastic action of repplacing the pump it thought i would see if any help is out there. could it be the stop solinoid attached to the side of  pump, or imobilizor, good fuel delivery up to this point.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1997 1.2l Fuel Filter Changing 31 May 2009 (Forum)
Doing a few routine service items on the old Corsa. Easy access to everything so far. But the fuel filter is something which appears to be a little different. I guess it is under the fuel tank somewhere- is it easy to reach? Haynes says to depressurise the fuel system by dismantling the front parcel shelf , removing door seals etc etc. before removing a relay.
