  • Self-charging batteries 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Then there is a device proposed to keep mobile telephones charged up, rocked as the owner moves about. What does more rocking and lurching about than a car ? Cars are getting more power hungry with every new model. As the technology develops will we see devices to recharge the battery as you move without additional drain on the engine.
  • Product placement in films 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I had the dubious pleasure at the weekend of watching the films 'The Cat in the Hat' and 'Thunderbirds' (don't ask). I was amazed at the amount of Ford cars and logos appearing in both these films. Thunderbirds featured the Ford T'bird based pink FAB1 car, as well as loads of 4x4's and (i think) Fiestas, all with Ford stickers and badges on display. The Cat in the Hat featured a yellow T'bird and scores of old shape Focus's (Foci?)
  • Good dealers and experiences 10 May 2005 (Forum)
Really good and polite service, good advice is given and problems however tiny are taken seriously and addressed. No "hidden nasties" have appeared on the bill since i have used them. Car comes back cleaned and not covered in greasy marks all over the upholstery and isn't left unlocked down some side street. As dealing with a car dealer should be. And secondly Chiltern of Bovingdon (independent) Jaguar, I like these dealer since they take into account personal usage when advising about servicing, and don't try and replace parts that will last for years with current usage.
  • Rear bumper protection & dink disguise 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have an MPV and although we rarely use the tailgate for access to the rear seats, I can see minor damage becoming a problem sooner or later as we load/unload the car. Also, given the inevitability of minor scrapes, dents etc. on what are very large/soft bumpers, has anyone got any tips for covering these up relatively unobtrusively without resorting to professional repairs?
  • peugeot be3 help 4 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The electronic speedo drive out of BE3 gearbox has 3 prongs for the connector. Live Earth Signal. question is which is which? My car never had this drive before so my haynes wont cover it, even if it did I wouldnt have the wires to check the numbers off against. Anyone a genius and know how to work it out, or better still anyone have a loom knocking about for a car with one of these drives that can check the wire numbers leading to the pins and let me know Would be helpful if they could also tell me what loom it is so I can get hold of wiring diagrams to find out.

  • Omega door skin and insurance 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
When I told colleagues about it yesterday, this isn't uncommon - young losers who can't even manage to break into a car successfully, causing hundreds of pounds of expense for people daily. Makes my blood boil.
  • Free-revving engines 19 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone! As you may have noticed I’m fairly new to the forum and I’m sorry if you’ve covered this one before. Everytime you read a car review in the press these days, or watch one of the car programmes on TV, there is a lot of talk about free-revving engines. Could you please explain to me how you can tell if an engine is free-revving?
  • Rogue Trader 9 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I bought a 1997 BMW Z3 from an independent garage 3 weeks ago. They sold the car with a '3 month warranty' which I haven't seen yet, although I was told covered 'all the usual' things. Since then, the clutch has started to slip, and I asked the garage to replace it. I was (very rudely) told they would not, as I 'probably' damaged it myself (I did not!)
  • Vauxhall Zafira - insurance company refuse to fight bogus claim 7 Dec 2010 (Forum)
[endif]--> Hi there, Can anyone offer any advice how to fight a fraudulent motor insurance claim when the insurers will not? My wife was involved in an incident whereby the car in front reversed back to allow a car to turn right across them, they almost caused an accident but my wife stopped in time. The other driver refused to get out of their car .My wife rightly checked both cars and confirmed there was no damage.
  • 2005 Ford Mondeo Estate - Used Car Issue 25 Feb 2015 (Forum)
My issue is that there is a warranty on the car and the fault is covered but only up to the price of £500. I have recently read that if a used car gets a fault within the first 6 months of sale, it would be within my right to ask for the cost of repair to be covered due to the Sales of Goods Act 1979 due to the car being unfit for purpose.

  • Volvo S40 braking 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Car is a Volvo S40 1.8 1998s. During freezing weather earlier this year I was unable to stop the car completely going down a steep hill. Hill was not gritted and covered in ice. I was able to slow to less than a crawl but not stop completely and had to resort to hitting the kerb which did the trick.
  • Classic-car insurance 18 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I've extracted this from another thread to make the following information more visible and to call for details of any more sources of classic-car insurance, should anyone know of any. Specialist Car Division (big ad in MB Club mag this month) 01277 206911 Norton Insurance: Heritage classic car cover 0121 246 6060 Peter Best (affilated to the MB Club) 01376 573033 AON 01384 552789 Classic policies are often limited to 5000 miles annually, but AON's underwriter offered to ignore that limit when I talked to them the other day -- I've been enjoying my Capri so much that I've run out of miles (it has been with Specialist Car Division, as have my other cars, because it has proved to be a very competitive source).
  • New car warranty 19 May 2004 (Forum)
They say it is not covered by the warranty. 2nd question? Having taken the car in to do repairs and fitting a new clutch instead of the brakes how mad should i be that they have returned a car to me that is dangerous to drive.
  • Crash involving drunk driver 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Why does my insurer pass me to a third party company who seems mainly to be a hire car providing company at high cost?  Why is car hire "tied up" with legal assistance cover??  Why does the insurer involve a second company to look after the claim and not just deal with it?  At first I was tempted to phone the other driver's insurer directly and get them to sort it!
  • Warrantydirect Confusion 19 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi, How good is the Warrantydirect cover outlined below? Could you tell me what is missing or what I need to ask? Also, wear and tear items aren't covered for the first 90 days. Do you know if a timing belt is considered a wear and tear item?
  • 2007 Kia Picanto - Need Mechanical Advice 25 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I have recently looked at a 2007 Kia Picanto with a view to purchase. Asking price one thousand pounds. *Seller advised brake pipe has corroded currently and is covered in grease. When test driving the car the appeared to be a noise which indicated a slipping fan belt, the seller confirmed this saying he tweaks it or resets it when this happens. The mileage on the car is 49,900.

  • BMW E60 - BMW Dealership Diagnostics 9 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hi there, Looking for some help / advice regarding BMW dealership diagnostics. To cut a long story short my car went into a dealership for investigation concerning a rattle on startup, this investigation came back with a £7k bill for correcting it. I have the BMW fully comprehensive warranty however, the dealership / warranty team have said that looking at error codes in the cars memory, the issue happended before expiration the 30 day period once you take out a warranty with them - during this 30 day period no issues are covered.
