Rear bumper protection & dink disguise - volvoman
Anyone know of a product which could be used to provide protection from scuffs, scratches etc. on a rear colour coded bumper?

I have an MPV and although we rarely use the tailgate for access to the rear seats, I can see minor damage becoming a problem sooner or later as we load/unload the car.

Also, given the inevitability of minor scrapes, dents etc. on what are very large/soft bumpers, has anyone got any tips for covering these up relatively unobtrusively without resorting to professional repairs?
A friend has used a large 'GB' sticker to good effect on his car for example.

I'd hate to have a repair done then find another scrape appears a couple of weeks later.

Remember the days where the bumper was there to prevent scrapes on the main car bodywork? :-)

On a more helpful note, you can get vinyl film which is usually used to protect the bonnet from stone chips, but could just as easily used on the rear of the car.

A quick google gave this site: www.protint.com/3MPaintProtectionFilm.ivnu

which might be a good starting point for research.

Some dealers offer a fitted plastic sheet that unfolds out of the boot over the bumper when you are loading/unloading to protect the bumper. Some makes have them, some don't, but give the dealer a call.

Our Subaru and Hyundai have dealer fitted adhesive trims which cover the top surface of the rear bumper so you can rest things on it without damaging the paintwork.

The Hyundai is a black plastic 'foil' although quite thick and the Subaru is a substantial stainless steel thing.

Similar problem with Fifi the faithful RF hound. Jumping in and out the hatch/boot with claws on the rear bumper top.

Solution? made a boot floor liner, thats longer than the floor so you "flap it out" and over the rear bumper when loading and unloading and "flap it in" when closing the hatch.
