35 in a 30 - consequences? 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Misses, as mentioned on other thread, thinks she got a ticket going by a 30 camera which flashed at her tonight. She is a new driver ( Jan this year ) and is sweating it, ive only told her that now she is on notice license-wise. She says that her speedo was somewhere between 35 and 40 and knowing its rough accuracy, id say she prob went through at about 35-36. -
BMW Estate police car & speed cam 19 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hello Driving back from work a bmw cop car was parked about 50 yards from a roundabout facing the way i was going - it was on the central reservation of the dual carriageway facing the direction I was travelling in ...............as I approached it at about 35mph ((donwhill )) ((speed limit 30mph))) I noted the red lights flashing - I slowed down & as i passed the polce car te lights were turned off.....it was just the red roof lights. My question - do some own bmw estat cars have a rear facing speed camera? Thanks -
Overtaking morons 16 Jul 2008 (Forum)
All of them drove down the middle of the road passing everything in sight whilst crossing over double whites lines, overtaking on blind left and right bends and hill brows, what is wrong with these people ? This road has seen numerous deaths occur, it had mobile speed cameras, police patrol cars, gatsos and still the suicide jockeys hammer along and all well in excess of the legal speed limit. -
London to Brighton run 5 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Although I'm sure much of this was due to the reactions of the gobsmacked drivers of more modern vehicles being confronted with a side on view of something that's lasted a century or more. Do the authorities turn a blind eye to the junctions that have cameras covering them? -
Vid to make yer wince! 12 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It's a motorcyclist having a head-on collision with another motorcyclist. The motorcycle had an on-board video camera, and drifted onto the wrong side of the road, colliding with another motorcycle coming in the opposite direction (on the correct side of the road). www.nothingtoxic.com/media/1181642604/First_Person_View_of_a_Fatal_Head_On_Motorcycle_Collision {Link made non clickable - not only because of the content which some people might find distressing, but due to adult related content that could trigger a report back to your employer, should you view this from your workplace. -
A historic driving day 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
As the motorways were busy I went the back route through Baden Baden and across the Black Forest.... ......and what a drive. Billiard smooth, winding forest roads, pretty empty, picturesque villages, no speed cameras out of the villages, little traffic. The sun was out, the top on the Barchetta was down, the music was on (loud) and life was very very good. Suddenly the decision to fit a short spring set and 17" wheels made sense. -
Set up or stupidity? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
When getting out of the car I noticed a mobile phone in the pocket between the seats and thought 'there's an invitation for a local scroat'. I then look in the car further and there was a Nikon SLR digital camera sat on the passenger seat. Needless to say sitting on the backseat was a lovely looking Dell laptop!! There was so much hi-tech gear in there I was suspicious of it being a set up, but I have the feeling the owner was just plain stupid! -
Speeding, and getting your own back. 5 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Not to condone anyone breaking the law but you have to admire the bravado of 4 youths from australia. 3 of them approached a mobile speed camera van and asked the operator a series of sensible questions about the equipment. The distracted operator didn't notice the 4th youth unscrewing the vans front number plate. After saying goodbye, they left and fixed the vans number plate onto their car then they repeatedly sped past the van at high speed . -
Motorists paranoid? 14 Apr 2005 (Forum)
For some time I've been of the opinion that UK drivers are paranoid, claiming persecution by all and sundry (both here and overseas) in the form of unfair stealth taxes, speed cameras, parking fines etc. etc. I read yesterday however that a bill intended to deal with the miscreations of foreign drivers in the UK had run out of time and, to cap it all, a leading car magazine has demonstrated how drivers of foreign registered vehicles are effectively above the law in many respects, there being virtually no enforcement action pursued by the authorities here. -

When is a red light not a red light? 24 Dec 2004 (Forum)
After a few more minutes stuck in this central reservation we began to cautiously edge out and, not wanting to die there, made our escape. These lights have cameras - bet they hadn't failed! - so, can you be done for crossing a red light when there isn't one actually showing? -
Road Angel Update ... 26 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Just before I release my hard-earned cash, can somebody confirm for me the Road Angel's effectiveness for the laser guns and mobile cameras ?? I know that it is very good on picking up the fixed-site devices. Any updates from members of the BR will be much appreciated. Thank You :) -
Preaching to the Converted 30 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Most of the lunatics out there only see driving as a means to an end & wouldn't read any driving advice even if it came with a ten pound note attatched to it! If only fixed site cameras could differentiate between speeding & dangerous driving, then maybe we'd all have a little more faith in the laws of the road... -
Shafted by congestion charge 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
EVENTUALLY got through to a human at 11.45PM and paid £10 instead of £5 just because the system was jammed up. Makes you want to smash one of the cameras. That would cost the pink fluffy dice a lot more than the extra £5 they swindled out of me. -
Ford Mustang - Hands free driving 16 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Instead of the current situation whereby the car with a self steer function gets you to put your hands back on the wheel after a few seconds, now it’ll use existing driver awareness cameras to monitor the driver and permit hands off on motorways. So as long as it sees you paying attention it’ll self steer and adapt speed via adaptive cruise control. I don’t think it’s a massive leap in technology, but the first time it’s been government permitted on UK roads. -
Peugeot 207 - Red light mitigation 10 Apr 2021 (Forum)
At that point I moved forward and I am unsure whether the light was still on red as I was being careful to watch for traffic. The camera did not flash I think. If I receive a ticket would this be classed as mitigating circumstances as I feel I was bullied in to moving? Also what are the risks of going for mitigation? Phil Gamble. -
any - ?? Seven seats + petrol + automatic, under £ 25 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Otherwise it's only a Mitsubishi Grandis which is rather old, or indeed an imported Honda, like an Odyssey (which drives very well.) She wants something roomy but not enormous, ie. not a Previa/Estima or similar. Parking sensors/camera are a must! Any thoughts advice or warnings?? -
Ford Focus Manual - Bad Ankle and Manual Car 18 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Are there any mechanical devices that would allow me to control the clutch with my hand, I am thinking along the lines of a camera cable release but more robust of course. Alternatively if anyone can point me to a reputable company that fits these sort of devices that would be helpful. Thanks! -
Used cars under £6000/£6500 10 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Looking for a small hatchback (not a city car preferably) My requirements for a car: reliable, cheap to run & maintain, up to 3 yrs old, A/C, cruise control, touch screen, Bluetooth, 5 doors, 0-60mph in under 11s, look good. Extras I would like are heated seats, android auto, start/stop & parking sensors/camera my budget is £6k (target) but I can stretch to £6.5k my annual mileage will probably be low - around 4-5000 Some motorway trips and lots of driving around town. All suggestions welcome and thanks for your help! -
Any - Dash cam recommendations 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I'm not keen on sucker mounts and would rather have an adhesive mount that stays permanently on the screen. Having looked around the Aukey with front and rear cameras looks small and seems to have some decent reviews. Price isn't too much of a concern but less than £150 would be ideal. Would be good to get some feedback or recommendations on where I can do some more research (have looked at Techmoan and a few US sites so far).
