In todays Daily Telegraph London Property Section was a short article that included how to turn cooking oil into bio-fuel for diesel engines. Sorry there is no link, so I have retyped it. Make your own bio-fuel All you need is a 45 gallon oil drum painted black and with a tap down the side, a large saucepan, a large sieve, some J-cloths and white spirit. -

Post-Apocalyptic Car Usage 11 Jul 2025 (Forum)
How would people rebuild their lives in a world without functioning infrastructure? With no petrol or diesel at the pumps, we’d be forced to find alternatives, perhaps by producing fuel from food sources, like biofuel. In such a scenario, only older vehicles with diesel engines might stand a chance, as they can run on straight vegetable oil with minimal modification. -

More economical car wanted for 160 mile commute 19 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Have recently moved and commuting to work I do a 160 mile round trip journey which is costing a fortune in petrol - around £18/19 a day. Please can anyone advise if it would be worth selling this and buying a diesel and how much I could expect my fuel bill to reduce if I did? If it won't reduce by much then it's probably not worth the hassle or expense of changing the car. I only drive automatic so would need to find an automatic diesel.
