  • Old barges gone up in price? 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
10-year old cars with large engines seem to have gone up in price since the summer. Anybody else noticed that what might then have been £750 is now £1500? Is this a result of the rapidly dropping petrol prices?

  • what new car following write-off 20 May 2005 (Forum)
Why is this? I thought the octavia was supposed to be a size class down from a vectra. Is getting a car that is only a year old economically sound as compared to one that is 2-3 years old? Can't spend much above 12k but would prefer 10k or less. Any ideas?

  • Car prices are like house prices now! 14 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I have been hunting around a new car, as my one is many years old. My budget was around £9k for a family hatchback (or estate) around 40k to 50k (pre pandamic).  I was looking at 4 year old cars.  Now even at £14k, I get old junkers which have done a lot of miles and interior looks worn out.
  • NCB for two cars 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
However we do definitely need to use the old car for the next month. This means that to get the ncb for the new car with SAGA we will have to cancel existing ncb policy on the old car and take a month's temporary insurance on old one without any ncb SAGA don't do short term policies.

  • Subaru Legacy and Outback Diesel (2008 - 2009) - oil and filter change - put old filter back on 4 Feb 2009 (Forum)
They rang saying they'd drained the oil and didn't realise that the diesel used a different oil filter and they didn't have one in stock. A double whammy! I couldn't leave the car with them for another day so they refitted the old filter. They've offered to have the car back and fit a new filter saying that would be ok. I think I'd prefer another fill of new oil as some of the old oil in the old filter will have mixed with the new oil.
  • MGB GT - Tyres 28 Nov 2017 (Forum)
On inspection I found the front nearside tyre had started to laminate and expose the wire casing underneath. My local tyre specialists explained that my 'made in England' Dunlop tyres were probably 20 years old. Although my car had an MOT inspection a month ago it is surely a worry that old tyres on classic cars are being certified as road worthy when they should be scrapped after say 10 years. The recent news whereby cars over 40 years old will be exempt from an MOT is doubly worrying given that some owners have no idea how old their tyres are or how vulnerable they are driving them.
  • Honda Stream - Engine Management light on 'new' 15 year old car 2 May 2018 (Forum)
It still drives fine though. On a car of this age, is this likely to indicate a * serious* mechanical problem??  All suggestions gratefully received.
  • Where have all the old bangers gone 26 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Has anyone else noticed that these days nearly all the cars are smart and seem to be lucky to see anything older than ten years old where as when i started driving in the mid nineties you would see cars with odd wings/ doors grey primer and oxide red paint around the wheel arches with thick black underseal along the sills i suppose the scrappage scheme killed a lot of and these days anyone seems to be able to get a car on finance
  • When does a car become "old"? 14 Oct 2011 (Forum)
This is something that can mean different things to people depending on your own situation,it could be at three years old or longer,or maybe when the warranty expires,or when it gets it first big bill or ding, for me i tend to move them on when i get to 100k on the clock which is silly considering i drive a diesel but its a subconscious thing,I could keep my car for another ten years but if we all did that what would happen?
  • Trying to trace an old car.Any ideas how 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Has anyone any idea on how I can legally trace it? I have tried the club and club website without luck. My interest in the car was rekindled when I bought an old car magazine at a car boot sale in the summer and found it was a roadtest vehicle in the eighties. Any help greatfully appreciated.
