  • Peugeot 407 2.0 HDi Flat spot? 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Do I need to learn how to drive modern turbo-charged diesels or is there a problem with this model and its ECU mapping? Or is it just my car? I have yet to confront the Peugeot dealer - that will be my next course of action but in the meantime - does anyone else have this problem? An Internet search for '407 flat spot' only shows one thread in an Asian forum ...

In addition, the engine management warning light is on constantly, even when it's running well. Just about every sensor has been replaced or substituted, including the ECU. The injectors have been changed, as has the inlet manifold and the engine wiring harness. Sticking valves have been suggested and ruled out. Electronic diagnosis gizmos seem to come up with a different code each time they are plugged in.
  • The end of rust? 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Makes you think that if you look after the bodywork and service them regularly you can easily see 20+ years in a modern car. Probably an ECU or electrical fault too expensive to repair would not signal the trip to the scrappy rather than rotten chassis. I can it now, mixing the resin to do some fibreglassing at the weekend, and the fun in putting too much hardener in!

when I pull away.Plugs very sooty.Cleaned throttle chamber and all vacuum hoses, renewed Idle Control Valve,Air filter,h.t.leads and plugs.Renewed O2 sensor, changed coil pack for a known good one and renewed Temp sensor (to ECU)This fault is present hot or cold.No mil light comming on,so no faults stored (only have access to paperclip test)I cant find any Intake or exaust manifold leaks.Funny enough,I first put a second hand O2 sensor on and it ran fine for about 2 miles then back to normal(mil light did come on-Lambda Sensor Malfuntion).I thought it must have been on its last legs so I bought a brand new one-still missing etc but no light comming up.Anyone had this problem or knows of a fix please-I'v been on the Vauxaull Forums, seen similar faults but no fixes-Its doing my head in now!
  • Help, flying oil cap. 1995 Skoda Favorit 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Called breakdown to start it - firstly, managed to connect their starting battery the wrong way (smoke came out of his leads before he noticed) and then failed to start it mumbling probably the ECU or injector need replacing(?). Well, not trusting his competence, Hubby down to Halfords and a new battery. Tried to start again - was turning over much better but still didn't catch. Then, after a long period of trying the oil cap, I kid you not, flew a couple of feet away (plus puff of whitish smoke from oil cap hole).
  • Another 306 diesel problem 3 Jun 2005 (Forum)
This pump has been connected to the dead engine for about 6 months in the garage unused, is there a chance the valve has seized? What will happen if I fit the pump that was supplied with the engine? will the ecu communicate with it ok or will the solenoid remain closed because the codes dont match? Help please! Jon
  • SAAB (mostly) cold starting problem 4 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone have any other suggestions if changing the coil doesn't help? Apparently this one year does not have a feature connector on the ECU so they can't even plug it in and see if any faults have been registered... Does anyone know if there is any other way to find out? (I don't know what sort of injection but I can find out if necessary - I believe it's the newer B202 [?]

Likewise an Audi A4 TDi 130 Quattro tested at 147bhp in standard form, this being more than the 2WD TDi 130's, the comment is that the Quattro ECU is set differently to the 2WD by the factory. However a Rover 75CDT tested at 116bhp, spot on stanadrd spec. Makes me wonder how many cars are infact more powerful than that quoted by the manufacturer.
  • Peugeot 106XR Quiksilver 19 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I immediately contacted the garage once I finally got home and the car was collected by the garage. After 1 month I was told that the car was ready for me. During the period in the garage the ECU board was changed, the car was subjected to computer diagnostics at a Peugeot garage ( not the garage that I bought the car from) which showed no faults. The throttle sensor was also changed. When I finally got the car back it drove beautifully for about 150 miles, over a period of about 3 days, and then the same fault occured.

  • VAG - EURO5 DPF info 6 May 2017 (Forum)
Due to this soot is burned-off and is converted into a smaller amount of ash. Active ‘regeneration’ is when the ECU intervenes when the soot loading in the DPF is calculated to be 45%. The procedure lasts for about 5 – 10 minutes. Specific measures are taken by the ECU to raise the engine exhaust temperature to above 600°C, these include switching off the exhaust gas recirculation and increasing the fuel injection period to include a small injection after the main injection.
  • Mazda 3 - Engine check light codes 15 Jan 2024 (Forum)
A sensor fault i) The sensor's heater is faulty (burnt out) and it or the whole sensor needs replacing; ii) A grounding issue or 12V connection to the battery; iii) A wiring issue - often caused by heat (it's near the exhaust [where the sensor is] and CAT) and/or physical damage via some means or age-related. 3. A fault with the car's ECU. - - - - Any of the causes of the fault may put the ECU into a 'safe mode' for the air-fuel mix and lead to poor running or mpg and even possibly other faults if not fixed. Needless to say, the test drive (25 miles, 2x 12.5 mile trips within 2 hrs) did not register the fault again, and so I'm keeping an eye on it.
  • Ford CMAX 2007 TDCi Auto CVT - Wont move when in Drive, 9 Feb 2015 (Forum)
    1. The car not going in to drive, what is the most likely cause? 2. Could the ECU reporgramming make any difference to the above problem? 3. If it is going to require the soleniod replaced - whats the most cost effective way to do this?  Can I get hold of the part? Anyone know where?
  • Jaguar X-Type - Do i have a claim 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I took it back to the garage again where they reported that it needed to go to an injection specialist as it wasnt indicating any faults on the ECU. I took it to the specialist who also reported no errors on the ECU and they replaced the air intake pipes at a cost of £180.00. The next day the car cut out again and got worse when mainly turning right hand bends.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 95 2.0 XSI died and I'm too stupid to make it go 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The battery isn't the recommended battery; I seem to recall it mentioned something about diesels on the wrapper.......... The pulsing noise actually originates from around the ECU. when it died on me half the time I couldn't get a response from the immobiliser keypad- when I could, it made no difference. I noticed that turning the key to "I" only brought on what I have learnt from reading other threads, is the alternator light ( & not the battery light!)
  • Ford Fiesta 1.6 - 2014 Fiesta 1.6 going into limp mode 20 Feb 2023 (Forum)
They wouldn't take on the work of fixing it as they couldn't guarantee any fix (they're the second of two decent, local garages to say the same). The garage this week said they feel there's something wrong with the ECU and BDM. Has anyone had similar? Did you manage to fix it? Thanks
  • Peugeot 108 - Servicing worth paying a main dealer ? 9 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I feel the same sort of satisfaction that I get from cleaning the car myself. I have a 108 and a 107 I have no need for a down load or any kind of ecu interrogation. I usually keep my cars for about 10 plus years then they are normally given or sold to someone that I know. Should I pay a garage to service the car just in case I decide to sell sooner rather than later?
  • BMW 1 Series - BMW 2016 (manual petrol) won't start initially 14 Mar 2018 (Forum)
It took me 5 times before I could start it, first: radio on engine off, second: dashboard said Engine already on, third: no lights all dead, fourth: yellow ECU energy warning light stayed on, but then it disappeared once I finally got to start it properly. If this is a fault, would the 3 year warranty cover it? I have been using this car for the last 8 months, bought it nearly new.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Engine hesitation 23 Nov 2017 (Forum)
The engine is still hesitating at high speed. I’ve changed the spark plugs and coil pack. Disconnected the battery to try and reset the ecu. No change. The cars not long been serviced as the oil is still golden. I’m going to try changing the air filter, fuel filter, maf sensor and also the crankshaft sensor. It’s going back to the garage today as they suspect the lambda sensor may need a clean/change.
  • Incorrect MOT mileage noted 21 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I have been in touch with the manufacturer who have said that mileage is not recorded in the ECU.  I do have a full service history (including the one that was carried out on the day, so that is also recorded in KM in the handbook!) Many thanks in advance!
