  • Mazda 6 - BRAKE JUDDER 6 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have experienced some judder through the steering wheel in recent weeks under braking, most noticably when braking from higher speeds. I saw another thread published by D M Johnson on the 18th July 2015 complaining of a similar problem. Would you have any fresh thoughts on what might be causing the juddering.
  • Vauxhall Corsa D 2012 - I slammed on the brakes to a complete stop due to 5 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I was coming up to a set of traffic lights between 20-30mph and there was a traffic camera. I wasn't close to the line nor far behind and when it changed I slammed on the brakes hard to a complete stop.  Did I ruin the brakes by slamming to a complete halt?

  • Volvo 850 petrol auto estate - twang on braking 20 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My Volvo 850 sometimes "twangs" from the front end when braking-- particularly when turning in to a parking space for example, but also sometimes when braking in a straight line.  I get a bit of feedback through the pedal so suspect the abs, perhaps the pump.
  • Shock! Braking distances shorter in Icy weather 11 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Has anyone else noticed how braking distances have miraculously shortened in this icy weather we're having? You sit well back from the vehicle in front giving yourself plenty of room to brake if needs be and you are taking it easy as its really slippy and then the guy behind then sits 10ft off your back end...
  • Volkswagen Bora (1999 - 2006) - 00 1.9 Funny Brakes 13 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Have had top mounts replaced, not sure if it is just me but the brakes don't feel as positive but abs works, and when I got home after a 2 mile drive at urban speed the front discs were hot. Would the replacing of the top mounts require any work on the braking system?

  • Brake Fluid renewal - Audi A3 1 May 2006 (Forum)
I will use Audi service garage for this but, given it is two years old, they are recommending changing the brake fluid which would add £90 to the price (!). Is it very easy to change the brake fluid - surely it is a matter of topping it up? Is anything I should be aware of? Many thanks
  • Ford KA brake squeak & PAS noise 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My Ford KA brakes squeak when I am braking moderately to hard. Is this something I need to get seen to early? Also sometimes when I turn the steering makes a motor whir type sounds. I assume this is the PAS. Is this also something I should get seen to early?
  • Low brake fluid level - 1993 Clio 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
A work colleague has told me that the brake fluid level on his clio is below the minimum mark. Am I correct in thinking this is *really* bad for the brake system or does that only apply when replacing fluid? He's going to top it up at lunch but does the system need bleeding or something similar?
  • Leaking brake fluid. 18 Apr 2003 (Forum)
A few years ago I bought a low mileage still-under-warranty 306. It wasn't long before I realised that it was losing brake fluid at an alarming rate. Unfortunately there were no visible leaks. It took me ages to persuade my local Peugeot dealer that the fluid must have been going into the brake servo. They finally agreed to investigate, and lo and behold......!
  • Brake light circuit 28 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Lately I have been getting a brake light circuit warning on my 95M BMW Coupe automatic. This warning light comes on intermittently and mostly occurs in the middle of the journey. I have checked that the brake lights and found both are working even when the warning appears.
  • Leaking Brake Fluid? 2 Jul 2001 (Forum)
When changing a rear wheel on my car this week, (which has drum brakes on the rear) I noticed a sticky golden residue around the rear wheel studs. Is this brake fluid? Where is it coming from? There seems to be plenty of fluid in the reservoir still. Advice appreciated.
  • Brake pad material 23 Jan 2001 (Forum)
I went to Halfords to get rear brake pads. I noticed the own brand were a dark colour and the Ferodo a light colour at £1 more per pair. The Ferodo were nicely chamfered so I got those. Is the brake material much the same? I read somewhere they had got rid of asbestos so they are harder.
  • Porsche Cayman S - Intermittent Problem with Brakes 22 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I have a Cayman S which basically has almost zero braking maybe one time in 20. On the other occasions it brakes ok. When it doesn't work properly the pedal stays firm rather than going to the floor but just doesn't slow the car down properly The front discs & pads were approaching the end of their life but there was no odd braking noises / other signs of a fundamental problem I asked the garage to check it out & change the discs & pads.
  • Testing hand brakes 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
How often do the BRs test their handbrake / parking brake ? Some BRs, replying to the recent thread on electronic parking brakes, said they very rarely applied the handbrake, especially with automatic gearboxes.
  • 2006 VW Passat B6 2.0 TDi 140 BHP 6 Speed Manual - Electronic Brake Caliper VW Passat B6 19 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi does anyone know if one of the rear electric brake caliper is faulty does the motor still try to operate on the second brake caliper or is the whole system shut down pending replacement of faulty brake caliper. Im asking this question as I took it for brake pads replacement recently and the mechanic could not get the rear calipers to release so new pads could be fitted.
  • Nissan Primera III 1.8 s 51 plate - grinding noise when braking 14 May 2010 (Forum)
on the above car i am finding when braking the brakes are not as responsive as they were before and the car makes a horrible grinding noise, the brake pedal also judders like when abs kicks in however this is happening when i brake slowly so its not like i am emergency stopping, its taking the car a good while to stop as well im not convinced its the brakes themselves as these were perfectly fine before this issue, also the cv joint drivers side was replaced last week and this has started playing up now any suggestions would be welcome, also i do not want to spend too much on this as this is a low value car so any approximate prices would be welcome, then i can decide if i wanna keep it or off to the sc***heap!
  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 00 3.0 Tyres: Braking resistance problem? 28 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I had all my brake discs and pads replaced last year prior to changing the tyres. Is this being caused by my new Falken tyres or trouble with the brakes? I have heard that different tyres have different braking resistance and ifso do I need to replace my front tyres to a premium brand with a harder compound, stronger side wall?
