Help choose a car 4 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Any recommendations greatly appreciated. 28yr old male, 40 mile commute each way daily, mostly motorway. Budget approx 12-14k, would consider finance/lease although presume not very cost effective given mileage? Ideally after a smaller sized car (hatchback/coupe/saloon) with good mpg, reliability and comfort. -

Austin Seven 1936 - MOT testing 14 Oct 2014 (Forum)
All cars over three years old need an MOT certificate when they are sold. All cars made before 1960 dont need an MOT certificate to be road legal. However do all cars made before 1960 need an MOT certificate when they are sold? -
Not - Changing the car! 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Havng taken the advice of The forum, (thanks to all) and really looked at Volvos, and tried a few, with a very good dealer without obligation, ( I said I wanted up to 1 year old petrol), was allowed a drive in a diesel s40, and an s60. Gave details for the future should they have a rare petrol version available will get in contact. Till then , as car tax due, have paid and will use, as nothing else really ticks the boxes. -
What will your next car be? 18 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We've done a thread like this before and out of it came my purchase of a Jaguar to satisfy that 7 year old boy inside of me who looked at pictures of the XJ and said 'one day i'll have a big Jag' its not an XJ but it'll do! So does anybody have any plans to change car soon? Is Bobbin still looking to frighten Preston with a fast Nissan? -
Insurance speak??? 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Sorry folks, more questions than answers at the moment. I've done it before but can't remember the terminology. Last time I changed cars Direct Line insured the new car AND the old car for a limited period while it was sold for no additional cost. The operator mentioned what it was called and implied that not all the operators knew the facility existed. -
Webasto Sunroof 7 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Greetings all - first post and would like some advice please! Looking at buying a 2 year old car that comes with a full length (almost) electric folding Webasto sunroof. Apparently it cost nearly £1k when fitted when the car was new! Anyone had any recent experience of having one - are they noisy, likely to leak, devalue the car at all? -
BMW - Warranty for BMW 19 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I purchased a BMW 320d from a BMW main dealer last year and the 1 year warranty that came with the Car is running out shortly. The Car is approaching 4 years old and has done 27000 miles. Can anyone recommend any third party warranty cover providers? and are there any specific areas of the Car that I should be looking for to be covered? -
£3000 or £4000 to spend - what car? 15 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I'm looking for advice. I need a smallish car, manual, not too powerful (up to 1.4 or something) with no silly gadgets - just power steering, central locking and a/c. I've been thinking about a golf but it would be quite old for that money - do I look by age or mileage? -
Money back, and change? 17 Jun 2007 (Forum)
According to our local rag, Vauxhall is offering a minimum £1,000 trade in on an old car for a new one similar to a successful scheme introduced by the Irish government some years ago to get scrappers off the road. Apparently, it's to pre-empt anticipated government regulations to force car manufacturers to produce cars that can be recycled, so to speak. -
Best car for a teenage learner 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My 18 yr old wants to learn to drive. Great idea, but I want him to buy his own car. I'll help with the insurance but I really don't want him in mine. If its his own money he'll be more careful (I hope). So, we are looking for diesel, economy, low insurance, and bangernomics to keep the cost down. -
New Car for a Friend 9 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I wish to surprise a friend by buying him a newish car, perhaps 12-18 months old. It must be a modern TDI, 4/5dr, offer very good relaibility and fuel economy and if serviced regularly capable of 300k miles. Do you guys have any suggestions. My own suggestion would be Skoda Octavia TDI or a Toyota Avensis TDCI but VW relibaility is suspect whereas Toyota is very good. -
Should I spec a sunroof? 1 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Sorry if this has already been discussed about sunroofs but? I real want to spec a sunroof on my new car, but as I don?t see many other new cars with them I was wondering what affect having one will have on the value/desirability of the car when I go to sell it in a few years time? Have sunroofs really become that old fashioned/superfluous? -
Insurance 20 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Could someone tell me how much difference there would be for a 17 year old just-passed driver in insurance terms between a 1.0 car and a 1.4 or 1.6? The reason for this is that I have been advised to go for a larger engined car by my instructor who says they are easier to drive and to keep up with the traffic. -
Daftest way to drain your fuel tank 1 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The "Daftest way to drain your battery" reminded me of an old aquaintance of mine who went out for a meal, as he pulled up in the car park he saw someone he knew so he got out of the car to say hello, three hours later he went back to the car and it was still idling away quite happily! -
Astra, 'Exhaust emission? light 24 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi, A friend of mine has a 6 month old Astra. This morning it wouldn?t start when first tried. It then started but the ?Exhaust emission? light came on and has stayed on. Her dealer says that they can?t look at the car for a week. Question is, can she drive the car in the meantime without doing any harm to the car and without being in any danger? -
T-Cut????? 8 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Morning all, I was walking the dog last night and happened upon two young lads waxing their car in the drive. The car in question was a tatty old Escort...H reg I think in red. As I got nearer it became apparant that they were using T-Cut over the entire car. I was under the impression that this takes a layer of paint off and should only be used on scratches. -
