  • Europe drivespots 24 May 2005 (Forum)
Just about to leave for 5 days touching down in Amsterdam from London One problem is driving on the opposite side of the road! Any tips on speed limits or driving or motels in France/Holland/Switzerland. Is there any of these countries you would rather not drive in , any cause. From what I have heard France has one disadvantage ie numerous toll roads and its extremely hilly in Switzerland.
  • Vectra on the drive 3 May 2005 (Forum)
Most of all, I miss the noise and torque of the V6. Overall I'm happy with it and I actually think it's nicer to drive than my work 3.2. Doesn't bother me that it's got a Vauxhall badge. And I'm determined to keep it longer than my usual two years.......cough!!

  • Running & Servicing Euro LH Car in GB 14 May 2004 (Forum)
Apart from the various import/tax etc things, what are the issues with getting a LH drive VW serviced here - are any of the bits specifically for left-hand drive cars, and therefore going to make a cheap to buy car expensive to run ?!
  • Regulations for Driving on the Continent 19 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The didn't mention the usual stuff about red triangles, spare bulbs and first aid kits but the following might be of interest. 1. In Spain, if you need spectacles for driving, you must carry a spare pair with you. 2. In France it is illegal to contact the emergency services by mobile phone - only the roadside emergency phones will do. I don't think this would stop mt ringing 112 or whatever for an ambulance or from a crash scene.

How on earth can we educate some of these people to make allowances when driving in these conditions?

  • Small reliable auto? 30 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My son will shortly be looking for a smallish car but must be an automatic as he has been used to driving one after spending a few years in Japan. The car he was driving was a 600cc auto with air con which had to have the air con switched off before it could tackle even the slightest gradient!. Well he grew to like the auto side of driving but would like something a little more powerfull, so what can he get for around £3000 of his money or a little more if I lend him the extra?
  • Renault Avantime 9 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Invited to Penshurst Place, nr Tonbridge, today by Renault to test drive their range of cars. I think this is part of a national 'roadshow' - go if you get the chance, its a great day out. Had to prebook my 2 test drives (a Scenic - poor, and a Laguna - good) but grabbed the chance to drive the new Avantime for 30 mins.
  • 2008 Mazda 6 2.0 Diesel - Losing Power 1yr+, Engine & DPF Light & Rising oil 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I went to drive it again, and the powerloss had not been resolved (again 0-60mph 23 seconds) I left it a day or two thinking maybe the filters would take a while to work, only to find the engine light came on with the DPF Light came on immediatly and flashing, I had to drive another 100mile round trip that day so called the garage to let them know and book it in and also ask if it was ok to drive the 100mile round trip.

  • Not fussy - Sub £2.5k Car for 12 months 19 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I am not fussy about make or model and the only requirement I have is that is has a center arm rest (a shoulder issue means not having one makes driving no fun at all...) and an estate/hatch would be preferable to allow a doggo to come for a drive. Ideally, looking at fiesta/polo size upwards and not a silly costs for VED. I'm countryside/market town based so there is little to no city driving and mostly its the school run (8 miles on country roads), 2 mile trips to the shop every couple of days and the occasional (a couple of times a month) drive of 30+ miles on the motorway.
  • Any - Autonomous Driving 15 Sep 2021 (Forum)
It may or may not have driver controls fitted. Level 5 is as above, but removing restrictions. The car can drive itself under any conditions.
  • Honda CR-V Hybrid - Disconcerting drive 2 Sep 2020 (Forum)
The seats are very comfortable and supportive and I think that its going to be a very relaxed cruiser - though the benefits of the hybrid technology will probably be more evident around town than in motorway driving.
  • Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster - First drive if the year 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Fresh petrol in the tank and she fired in to life.  Lovely drive around the kent country side stopping at a pub on the old A20 for a spot of lunch. Many people asking about the car. Was asked by someone if I was willing to sell but seen as it's not mine I'm not in the position to sell.
  • Suggest a car for my father? 23 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Dad is a fit, healthly and very active 79 year old with a long history of driving decent cars and driving well.  Before his recent car he drove a Subaru Forester Turbo which was a lovely car and he only changed becuase my recently deceased mother found it hard to get into and out of.

  • Ford Galaxy - Coolant warning light 9 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I filled the coolant to just below the Max.I took the car for a drive until the engine reached its normal driving temperature and when the car reached 10 miles the Stop, Check Coolant warning light appeared. I stopped the car and checked the coolant expansion tank and it was still just below Max.
  • any - Driving instructor quality 8 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Walking along a side street popular with driving schools for teaching 3 point turns, reverse parking etc, , I saw a learner draw up alongside a parked car, evidently to learn reverse parking. The problem was, as she had left a good 5 feet between the left of her car and a parked car (no.1), she had effectively blocked the road, as there was a parked car (no 2)  on the other side of the road.
