Citroen C3 1.4 Petrol 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The radio has gone haywire, indicators would not work, odometer would not work, air bag light and headlight indicator on. I disconnected the battery and waited a few minutes to allow the computer to reset. Connected the battery back up and it seems to have cured the problem. Will see how it goes but if anyone has an idea as to what the fault is, I shall be grateful for a reply. -

Passat Electrics failure 25 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I fixed the alarm by removing the fuse for the CCM. I did note a build up of water in the bulkhead below the battery but have since removed the battery and checked the drainage which seems clear. There are no other signs of problems. Please could anybody advise what could have caused the electrics to fail and secondly where is the CCM located and is it a straght forward replacement for a new part? -
minis 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
does anyone have any idea why my mini runs on when i turn the ignition off? it doesn't do it every time but it does puzzle me.also my battery (which is brand new) often goes flat, the alaernator has been rewound etc.. pumping out 14 volts but when i test the connection to the starter solenoid it only shows 12.3v which i think is not enough to charge the battery, aconnected problem i have is that my headflights are quite dim i have no comparison so it may just be mini lights if any on e can help with any of these problems i would be very grateful thanks -

Hybrid or all electric 13 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Battery tech has improved in recent years but costs need to plummet before electric power becomes economical for the masses in the longterm and the government jumping in to effectively ban combustion engines in the near future will force many on limited means off the road unless something improves quickly. -
Volkswagen Golf 1.4tsi DSG - Economy Mode on Golf 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Over 500 pages covering every model and every gizmo available. The hundreds of 'Warnings' are often amusing. On changing the battery in the key fob it states: DANGER Swallowing batteries with a diameter of 20mm or other lithium batteries can result in severe or even fatal injuries within a very short period of time. -
Citroen c5 - Citroen c5 hdi 02 trouble starting 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I changed the battery and I'm still having simular problems, when the cars been sat for a while, like overnight, it really struggles to start, barly turning over untill it finaly kicks in, (with the new battery I'm yet to have a non start or Eco mode) But then it fires up great for the rest of the day, no problems, I thought it was the cold as its every morning during this weather but the other snowy morning it fired stright up no probs, then the next mild morning started to suffer again, what could this intermittent problem be? -
Peugot 306 - Cooling fan / car runs when key removed 26 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Drove my 306 back from work pretty fast and when I got home cooling fan remained on at full pelt for about 15 minutes after I'd stopped and switched off the ignition. Naturally this drained the battery somewhat, but by giving the car a hefty rev alongside the ignition it did get going. I took it for a short spin to get the battery charged but when I returned I got a nasty surprise. The engine stayed running even when I turned off the ignition and removed the key! -

Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 leaking battery smell when heater is on 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My header tank is full of crap its like horrible stuff floating around it, somebody said this could be breaking up radweld. When I have the heater on I can smell a leaking battery sort of smell could this be the leaking coolant which is hot? I've had a look round the heater matrix and all seems dry but I suspect the leak is one of the hoses that joins it and the previous owner had tried to fix it with rad weld. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 Alternator only lasting 3 months! 18 Jan 2010 (Forum)
He has managed to get 3 of them on a warranty as faulty units (which he thinks they are not faulty when fitted). We have looked at earthing problems and discounted battery (new one) and are now looking at the "smart charge" system and ECU fault, even though ECU reader has indicated no faults. The things die in the same way, battery light comes on, battery puts out 12ish vaults under load and refuses to increase to any more than 12.4 vaults. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 01 1.8 key fob not working 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
hi all, my key fob as stopped working due to the fact that my heater controls are on a perminent live, when i get out i have to turn my heaters off else my battery goes flat. The other night i forgot, i was late for work and was in a rush. when i came out to go home i could not unlock my doors with the key fob - not enough power in the battery i think, i eventually got my door lock to open, it was a bit stiff to open due to the fact they never get used, anyway i got the car running. -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 97 1.1 Running problems. 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Reading the codes I had 10 separate codes mainly for, I suspect, sensors etc disconnected with the ignition on. All cleared off except for one "Battery Voltage" (No codes only a narrative) Battery voltage is not bad at 14.02 but battery voltage on live data varies between 8 and 15 volts. I've not physically measured the voltage at the ecu pin yet. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1997 TDS (isuzu) - rev counter 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I managed to do 250 motorway miles today with lights on, at the end of the journey still getting 12.5 volts across the battery with the engine running. So the alternator seems to be working to some degree, but something is still definitely up. With the engine running shouldn't I be getting about 13.5 volts across the battery? -

How is battery condition tested anyway? I assume voltage is no real indicator unless under load, but how much load do you need? TIA! -
