  • Ford Transit Connect - Cooling Problems 25 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I changed the clutch, brake pads, a few various bearings, speedo sensor, brake/clutch fluid and I drained the cooling system, flushed it through and put fresh coolant back in. Took it for MOT and it flew through with an advisory on tyres lol. A couple of days running round and not a problem until last night.
  • horsebox - misrepresentation of vehicle 29 Jul 2014 (Forum)
She did take the vehicle n contacted me 4 weeks later to say she had noticed on the mot certificate a difference in mileage as If the vehicle had been clocked. I asked her to send me a pic n sure enough there was a difference so I started to investigate it. She then went mad down the phone at me screaming I was part of a gang of car thieves etc.
  • Une carte postale 1 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Boxy and inelegant, with a behind like a fishwife, but unmistakeably French, French, French. The Kangoo - such a practical motor, no doubt with roots in the 2CV van. But in style? - unmistakeably French - and noticeably unpopular on British roads. The baguette, delivered in rural regions by van, invariably comes in a motor unrecogniseable on British roads - the white van with windows at the side in the back.
  • Forthcoming changes - Car Excise Duty 17 Jan 2014 (Forum)
You all will be aware that HMG are to do away with paper Excise Licences for motor vehicles later this year probably Oct 2014 as far as I can gather and...
  • How long do you keep a car for? 1 Oct 2005 (Forum)
To say I dragged it out and restored it would not be strictly accurate. The local garage welded sills and B-posts to MOT standard, chassis is of Land Rover quality so was OK, and a little filler and lots of brush painting made Auntie fairly presentable again. Just after I had finished the great hurricane of 1987 loosened the shed roof which collapsed on her.
  • interesting sat telegraph this week 11 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Etc There should also be a distinction between, going out in the morning knowing full well you are breaking the rules (e.g. Car obviously unroadworthy etc, Mot out of date, or no insurance etc), and a momentary bad decision. The first of these two is far and away the worst in my opinion. The political desire to cut down on car use should not be led by negative ?
  • Auction visit 3 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Made £8,500 plus fees to online buyer who obviously got a bit over excited. Noticed a row of Open Reach Peugeot EV vans in on 73 plates for disposal at a commercial vehicle sale. These have done hardly any miles and are essentially new vans. Must not have worked out for the firm so they’re getting shot. Be interesting to see what they go for.
  • diesel - Diesel Engine remaps and emissions. 10 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Finally, it is worth looking at the factory output of car derived engines used in commercial vehicles like vans. They are ALWAYS rated at lower output than their passenger car equivalents. This is not because 'van operators are not interested in performance' or something equally trite. Quite the contrary.
  • Economy in tow cars and necessary licenses 23 Aug 2020 (Forum)
This would be fine as I could downplate a 3.5 ton trailer to that weight and still be able to tow pretty heavy cars. I'd also be open to considering a cheap petrol van with a good towing weight but I'm pretty sure no such thing exists.  My questions are these: Is any of the above information wrong? Is there any way I can avoid taking the B+E license?
  • A motoring diary`snapshot` - you, yesterday 4/6/09 6 Jun 2009 (Forum)
A life `snapshot then - 4th June 2009 Awoke without the alarm - as usual around 5.30AM - came down to a coffee and the `afterglow` of the Punto 1.9D passing it`s 7th year MOT again the day before. (Garage guy intrigued about the Castrol CL waterproof grease - still oozing into the frames - he too didn`t rate Waxoil) 9.10AM Rush hour gone. Punto van up to 70 - on the M62 heading East towards Hull.
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1999 2.2 diesel dealer/brakes problem 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
the dealership repairing the car had it for over a month and have said that the master cylinder and soemthing else brake related (cant quite remember at the mo) has gone and they want £1000 to repair, having had the car MOT'd less than 2months before the accident, he had noticed nothing wrong with the brakes what-so-ever, so he as surprised to get this news from the dealer. he has said no to the repairs for now on the car, signed a waiver that says the dealer has infomed him the brakes are dangerous and the car should not be driven, and tested the car in a secure car park, needless to say the brakes were not working as they had been prior to the car being taken away (he described it as like driving his work's transit van with 6 elepahants in the back, it just kept going and going). the person at the dealers he spoke to when he was told about the brake problem said (quote) "you wouldn't normally notice it in day-to-day driving, only in stop start town traffic" (un-quote), normal day to day driving for the car involves 4miles through rush hour traffic to get home from work in the morning (varies between 7.45am and 8.30am), 2miles for the morning school run, 2miles for the afternoon school run, aswell as the shopping run on a saturday, as the car was collected and returned on a flatbed lorry, they only time it was driven after the accident was to get it onto the lorry and on the test-drive by the dealer, he has been back to the garage that MOT'd the vehicle and has asked if there any cause for concern regarding the brake's master cylinder (ie they passed MOT but might not be in 100% working condition) but the mechanic was non-commital, in short, what are his options..?
