  • Will we turn into Cuba? 11 Jun 2024 (Forum)
Cubans had a ban on importing cars and so were obliged to run their old models for years. The streets are full of old American cars, with a lower supply of ice cars over here will our motorists adopt a similar approach and hang on to their vehicles for a very long time?
  • Old time cars were not so well built 8 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Looking at these photographs, motor car design has moved in safer directions. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2154369/Crash-bang-wallop-Fascinating-photos-capture-thrills--spills-golden-age-American-motoring.html...
  • Advice required on part exchange 12 May 2014 (Forum)
[endif]--> Hi Folks   Can you tell me when part exchanging your old car for a new or used car that you are buying from a garage, why is the salesman more likely to increase the price of   your old car than reduce the price of the car that you are buying?
  • Peugeot 307 CC (2003 - 2008) - What are these like at 3 years old 8 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Lot of 3 year old Peugeot 307 CC's starting to come through the auctions at around £7k. Very pretty car. Seems a steal at this money but what about the electric motors for the roof?
  • Retreiving old number plates 29 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I know the answer will be no but is worth asking. Over 20 years ago dad had to scrap his car which has been in the family for 18 years. It had a distinctive numberplate. is it possible to put life back into old registeration plates? or is it a case once it is scrapped the number no longer exists
  • Should I change my 6-7 yr old Battery? 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My car is 6/7 years old with original battery. We use it for short drives and the engine is 2.3 (Honda). How long should the battery last? I am minded to replace it now.
  • Vauxhall Astra E (1984 - 1991) - 87 1.6 Old but low mileage cars... 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)

  • My car is ten years old. What am I missing? 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Decent engine, 5-speed box, decent brakes, more than adequate performance, aircon, CD player and wipers that don't slow down on hills. Hope to run it to 100,000+ with no problems. So my car now is a world away from that Popular, but is still ten years old. Which developments in the last ten years am I really missing, and are they worth it?
  • Why so many 1-yr old cars for sale? 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The market is quite flooded with nearly new (1-yr old) cars of all models! Though it is a good thing for rest of us who don't buy new cars but I do wonder psychology drive the owners to sell new car after just one year suffering huge depreciation! Brand new cars are unlikely to turn as lemons.
  • Buying Old Cars Unseen 8 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Maybe for a nearly new car still under makers guarantee this method *might* make some sense, but for an old banger or a classic (very old, cherished, banger) who would commit to buy unseen, having not even heard the engine running?
  • any - Old vs new (I think old clearly wins) 16 May 2021 (Forum)
In an idle moment I was having a look on the motoring section of MSN news just there. The point of the article was to show how much equivalent cars...
  • Build quality- japan versus the rest 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Apart from an old passat estate i`ve no knowledge of german or swedish machinery Is it because the cars are (were) in different price ranges when new or are japanese cars just made much better in general?
  • Renault Megane sport 2009 old shape - incorrect price given on trade in 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Since my car is coming up to six year old, i decided to look at trading my car in and buying a Renault Megane 1.5 dci dynamique tomtom 3dr energy, So while looking at the cars for sale on HJ website, I thought i had found the perfect car with only 2500 on the clock and a asking price of £11295, only issue was, its 300 miles away.
  • Can I insist on watching? 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I plan to insist on watching as it is serviced. Anyone see any problems with this? Afterall we are no longer in the days of old when any old grease monkey could stick any old oil in and it had no consequences are we?
  • Dirty stinky 20 year old diesel buses 20 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Why not tax dirty, stinky, 20 year old diesel double decker buses so much that its cheaper to run a car? Then there will be no need for bus lanes, bus stops, bus stations {turn them into town centre car parks} and so room for a few million more cars on the roads, motorways and in town centres.
  • New Cars 'V' 3 year old ones 31 Aug 2001 (Forum)
As a private motorist, on average earnings {OK a little above average}, on PAYE with no chance of passing on any costs to the tax man {self employed} or employer {car allowance}, I cannot understand the logic in buying new? I bought a 3 year old Rover GSi, with 30k on the clock, 13 months MoT, 3 months Tax, FSH, v good condition, at a little over 1/4 of the new list price.
  • Volvo XC60 - SUV Old v/s New (£25-£30k max) 3 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Skoda). Increase in used car costs is the reason for the question as not much difference in prices of 3yr old car v/s new.

  • 6K Family car 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I have 6K to spend on a solid family car. I have considered a Passat, Audi A4 and old A6, old 5 series BMW, Honda Accord, Toyota Avensis and high spec Mo Mondeos. It appears to be a trade off between old quality high milers and newer cars perceived as less quality vehicles.
