  • Fuel Company Loyalty Schemes 11 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Following the demise of Asda offering a fuel card with points to be redeemed for future shopping bills (I bought more fuel, instead of food shopping), who now offers the best value scheme? As the Shell station near the Asda store price match, I have now started to use their card.

  • Supermarket Petrol - Good as branded? 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Is the petrol sold at supermarkets the same quality as branded fuels? Several years ago rumours circulated that supermarket fuel was inferior to that sold by the oil giants, BP, Esso, Shell, etc.. Any one have any thoughts on this?
  • transit connect 2 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I have a new transit connect for work and the hand book says the fuel tank is 60 liters I have run untill the fuel light comes on plus 10 miles and it only took 45 liters. Is the hand book wrong or has it a large reserve?

  • bmw 125d S/S - injector cleaner vs turbo cleaner (diesel) 20 Dec 2021 (Forum)
is there REALLY a difference between injector cleaner, and turbo cleaner?   Both are added to the fuel, but surely, a good fuel/injector cleaner, will also clean the turbo vanes, via the fuel vapour? I get a little smoke, at speed, usually around 75mph, no smoke under load/acceleration, no lights on dash, no lack of power!
  • E 10 water in tank accumulation 23 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Apologies if this has previously been covered.  I am assuming that petrol is not drawn from the very bottom of the tank into the fuel pump? We have all been made aware that water will settle at the bottom of the tank so presumably after a period of time it must be unavoidable for our tanks to fill this "void" with water plus we are all told not to let fuel get very low as this can damage the fuel pump so once again causing an area in the bottom of the tank to retain water.

  • Mazda 6 sport petrol - Petrol Fuel problem 8 Sep 2018 (Forum)
He booked it into a dealer who said he had badly contaminated petrol, They said they had not seen anything like it before, apparently the fuel in the tank was black. It is used often, done around 45k and topped up regularly with petrol. They have changed the pump, cleaned the tank and it’s still not right. Any thoughts on what could have caused the petrol contamination?
  • Ford Fiesta - Fuel Gauge Problem 28 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hello all, I gave my 2013 Fiesta a bit of a service today, oil, filters and plugs. Once the work was done, I took the car out for a drive and noticed that the fuel gauge needle is positioned just over the full (1) mark. Before it was just below full. And when I turn the ignition off the needle falls just above the red mark. I had the car's front wheels positioned on a pair of ramps to do the oil change, I'm wondering if this may have unsettled the sender unit at all?

  • Ford Fiesta - How much can tyres affect fuel consumption 10 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Car on these was averaging about 42 mpg Replaced all four tyres for Kumho's and ever since my fuel consumption has slowly plummeted for currently 39.4 mpg... So is it possible that the (correctly inflated) tyres are responsible for this drop or could something else be wrong?
  • toyota hilux 2007 - TOyota Hilux Faulty fuel injectors 17 May 2011 (Forum)
My Toyota Hilux has recently been diagnosed with faulty fuel injectors despite only having done 37,000 miles. Ive been quoted £2,400 + VAT for the repairs. I have read in various places about Toyota having had problems with the injector seals, the old copper ones being changed to aluminium ones i think.
  • VW Golf 2.0 8v - High Fuel Consumption 30 Dec 2010 (Forum)
If I do lots of city driving or short journeys, the petrol consumption drops from 35 to 25mpg or worse - the engine also starts surging / running rough and there is a smell of fuel from the exhaust. The only way I have managed to clear this in the past is to drive quickly on a downhill stretch of motorway, then take my foot off the throttle and let the engine overrun for as long as possible - say 75mph down to 60mph.
  • 306 HDi 2.0 - 306 Fuel filter query 9 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Being a bit of a noob (read TOTAL noob) I did a bit of reading about changing the fuel filter on my 306 and found countless people recommending changing both the filter and housing because of the temperamental nature of the HDi engine and the risks of contaminants reaching the HP side of the system after a filter change As it seems a housing costs around 80 quid this seems a bit excessive, so I wondered if anyone knew of an alternative compatible filter and combined disposeable housing for this car rather than the cartridge type its designed to use Cheers Mike
