Are older automatic cars more risky to buy? 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
While looking around for a car in the price range of £800-£1000 (so around 10 years old), I've seen one or two automatics for sale. It's a big gamble buying a car of that price range and vintage anyway, but do you think that a car with an automatic gearbox would be a risk too far? Or were the auto boxes quite reliable by the late nineties? -
Small automatic runabout recommendation 6 Mar 2007 (Forum)
It's only a second car, which gets very light use (to and from work if I don't cycle, and occasional evening trips when the other car is in use), so I'd like something smaller, and I'd like an automatic. What would backroomers recommend as a small, cheap, reliable automatic for up to £5K? -
Diesel Automatics-do they exist? 2 Sep 2001 (Forum)
For my next car I need something at least as alrge as my current Vectra Estate automatic. I found the Vectra very thirsty (c 28mpg) so does anyone know of large diesel automatics? I don't think that the Mondeo has this option. I suspect that SKoda Octavias do, but this car doesn't have much rear legroom for our growing children. -
Do automatics offer engine braking? 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
What's the correct answer - yes, little bit, depends on car or not at all? Couldn't find a definitive answer from web search. PS: talking of conventional automatics, not semi-manual things. -

BMW 320 Diesel - Automatic transmission fluid change in 320? 8 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Just wondering if the automatic transmission oil should be changed occasionally in this car or is it really a 'lifetime job'. There is no mention of it in the service booklet. The car is a 2006 with 200,000Klms. -
Suzuki Baleno SZ5 Automatic - Suzuki automatic gearboxes 11 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I have had 3 Swifts and a Baleno over the last 12 years - all bought new All TC Automatics and the 6 speed Baleno gearbox has been absolutely brilliant and faultless - it doesn't hang on to 3rd gear as the old gearboxes did It averages over 50mpg and is super smooth and instant changing I would like to know why Suzuki have decided to stop using the torque convertor box and instead move to a slow changing automated manual box on (all ?) -
Foes my Ford Fusion have a Durashift gearbox? 21 Mar 2015 (Ask HJ)

Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 95 2.2 Automatic gear box/MOT 3 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I've got an offer of an espace but it has a strange fault. Basically when you first start it you need to use gears 1, 2 and drive (as gear 3) as the automatic gear box doesn't work initially. When you have driven a mile or so you can turn the engine off and on again and the automatic gear box works fine. Does a fault like this mean an automatic MOT failure? -
