  Hi Folks I drive a NOV 97 406 1.8 lx . I have recently had the car serviced with new coolant and i have noticed that the car has started to idlle erraticly. It often hovers between 1000- 15000rpm before settling at 800 after about 10secs. Has this got something to do with a service? i must admit it did happen once before the service but i just seem to notice it much more after the service.

  Thought this may help others with similar problem. Symptoms are car makes knocking/rattle type sound on startup. First thought it was the coolant pipes knocking aginst bulkhead wall, but that was all secure. Finally located problem with engine mounting bracket on timing belt side. Had to remove bracket by supporting engine with jack. On removal, problem was very apparent as the threaded rubber mount had worked loose.

  So my question is: Is the 1.4 K series OK and is it just the 1.8's that have the HGF problems? Or are they all rubbish? I've done a forum search, and noted the advice to check the coolant etc. TIA

  When you use the heater on my wife's Mk1 Punto (no A/C) we get a light film deposited on the inside of the windows. I am wondering whether the heater matrix has a small leak. There is no noticable loss of coolant. Years ago I had one leak and that emitted a cloud of 'steam' when it was used - this hasn't reached those proportions - yet! Question is, can anyone think of another cause? Getting at the matrix to check it is a major facia out job, so one to be avoided if possible.

  Hi, I've just changed the coolant on my 1.5 DCI Clio (2001) and I'm worried there is an air pocket in the top of the radiator I cant bleed. The top hose that connects to the radiator is about 3 inches below the top of the radiator itself, and I cant see any bleed valve to bleed the air out of this area.

  Also driving on the motorway the engine management light will come on for ages when going 60MPH+ Below 60MPH the engine light does go off. I have checked MAP sensor, put in new stepper motor and engine coolant sensor. Before I take to get the code read is it worth changing the lambda/oxgen sensor or could it be somthing else?

  PS there are no obvious leaks, dry carpets etc and condensation is much worse on starting to use demister to clear windows. Sometimes a sweetish smell. But no significant coolant loss! Any other ideas? pmh (was peter)

  They think it might be the water pump, but they need to have it in to investigate. Which will probably be next Tuesday. But driving to work this morning the coolant warning light started to go off?!?!? Doesn't it annoy you when you book your car in for work and it still goes wrong!!! Grrrrr......

  Well loved but sick 89 1050cc polo, Has been taking noticeable longer than usual to start recently, and currently dies after about 20 sec of idling, runs ok with a bit of right foot, suspect the in line fuel filter, any other ideas?   car now has 78k on it. it drives all good, no oil loss or top ups needed between services, (12k) and coolant changed at the 4 year mark. also, no white mayo under oil filler cap (yes i been reading lol) altho i said no loss to coolant when first happend, when garage did change the coolant it lost some, so when new, the level was half between min max lvl, when changed at 4 years it was at say the 1/4 level. but ive read this is normal?.
