  • Mazda MX5 1.8 2001 - Mazda MX5 poor mpg/performance 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)
My car has poor performance and economy of less than 25mpg even when driven carefully. The engine heats up very quickly. all these factors point to a collapsed catalyst/exhaust blockage. Does this seem plausible?
  • Toyota - Townace overheating 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Garage replaced head gasket and confirmed no crack in head. 4 weeks later same symptons - bubbling in expansion tank but not over heated as only doing short journeys. Garage now tells me the fault could be elsewhere, ie in engine block or possibly radiator faulty causing car to overheat (although temp guage hasn't gone above half way).
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 94 1.8 Ignition Coil Tolerances 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hello all, Enjoying the heat? Phew. Checking the resistance of the ignition coil on the above car (ABS) and the 1998 2l 8v gti (AGG) engines. Bentley has the primary coil at 0.4 to 0.8 ohms but the ABS engine coil is 3.9k ohms and the AGG has 1.9k ohms.
  • 2001 1.8 Mondeo pinking? 12 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Just started to notice my Mondeo pinking a bit: like when keeping a moderate speed up a slight hill in 4th or 5th, and also when idling with a load on (eg the two heated windows, or full lights). Can only hear it with the window open so it may have been doing it for a while. Only seems to do it when fully warm. Car has done 75k, was serviced by Ford about 6k ago and new plugs fitted.
  • Peugeot 406 rear window relay 12 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Friend has a 1996/7 Pug 406 and the heated rear window relay has packed up. Haynes says the relay is located behind the fuse box in a relay pack area on the rh ride inside the car. He's looked but can't find the relay- it doesn't correspond with the picture in Haynes.
  • Mercedes depreciation-WOW! 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Took my sister's beloved AMG C43 into the dealers today to buy a new one (now C32). Car is 1999, total spec inc electric heated seats leather cd etc. It has 30,000 miles and MB history. Expected around £17-18500 for it (it was £45000 in 1999). Best trade in price ... £13000 against a new Lexus worst ... £9750 against a new MB C32!!
  • Petrol or diesel for short runs? 25 Nov 2002 (Forum)
My wife needs a car for sort runs, school runs, etc. about 5 miles at a time. My Picasso HDi takes miles to warm up, her rover 214sli literaly gets toasty after a few hundred yards. If I got her a 1.4 HDi or similar, will it wear out prematurely as it will never reach proper temp (not to mention never having any cabin heat).
  • diesel price 17 Jan 2001 (Forum)
i know it is the old issue but why the price of diesel is 4 or 5 pence more than unleaded. i have 2 diesel cars and i think any advantage of being better efficiency is wiped out by the difference in prices; acceleration hard to achieve similar petrol performance at junctions will cost further. HJ talked about heating oil price but winter is quite mild and crude oil price has gone down, so why?
  • T Reg Ford Focus 1.6 LX - Ford Focus Speedo stops working in the heat 15 Jul 2013 (Forum)
So, I replaced the VSS again, this time the part only cost me £12.00 and it came with a lifetime warranty. Drove the car, worked perfectly, really chuffed with myself again, and safe in the knowledge if this sensor fails I can get it replaced under warranty. However, the day got hot, car is in direct sunlight, and low and behold the speedo is dancing about all over the place before dying again.
  • Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - 2004 ex police 3.2 heater and wiring probs 23 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Now i did a search on here and i read something about resetting the climate control unit. Is this required after its been disconnected? Second prob. As you'd expect with an ex-police car theres been a bit of butchery to the wiring. All seems ok though, apart from the fact theres no way to turn the traction control off. I have no manuals with the car, but i assume as with all other TC cars, you can turn the darned thing off if you want to.
  • RAC - whats going on 25 May 2006 (Forum)
been a member of the RAC now for two years and have had to call them out a a few times. 1st time my car was over heating, patrol man popped a radseal pellet in the rad and everything was fixed. i was impressed and he got on his way. 2nd time round i just picked up a car from a trader, driving it back on the motor way and started over heating. pulled over rang the boys in orange and about an hour later he pulled up had a 3 second check and told me he was 95% sure the haed gasket had gone. got car towed back to the trader and got a refund. 3rd time was 2 days ago on my 1997 mk3 golf tdi.it was chucking out smoke and over reving on its own then cutting out. patrolmen arrived in 10 minutes, done his walk round and smelt a few things and proceded to explain that the turbo seal had gone.
  • Any - Built-in sat nav - will it date 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It works ok, but there's the hassle of the temporary mount on the windscreen, the trailing lead to the 12v socket.....I'd prefer the convenience of built-in nav. However, whatever car I buy I'm keeping for at least 7 years, probably longer. Would I be left with an anitquated in-built sat nav by then?
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 95 1.1 Heater not fully working 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I've just bought a new fiesta 1.1 and as my old car died a sudden death I didn't have much time to be picky about it. The heater doesn't seem to really get hot, it gets just about warm enough to clear the windscreen but not to actually warm the car up.
  • Toyota IQ - Removing stickers from rear window 22 Oct 2015 (Forum)
My Toyota IQ was supplied with adhesive dealer and Toyota "5 year warranty" stickers on the inside of the rear window. Please say if removal of these stickers and associated adhesive is likely to damage the heating elements in any way.
