Townace overheating - alpine
Recently bought a townace but unfortunately overheated on long journey. Garage replaced head gasket and confirmed no crack in head. 4 weeks later same symptons - bubbling in expansion tank but not over heated as only doing short journeys. Garage now tells me the fault could be elsewhere, ie in engine block or possibly radiator faulty causing car to overheat (although temp guage hasn't gone above half way). Can anyone offer any suggestions to problem? Reluctant to pay another £900 if no gaurantee to fixing problem.

Thanks, Roy.

These suffer from poor airflow over the radiator, as well as radiators getting blocked up. Heads are also a weak point. God knows how they run for so long in Afghanistan!

The only reliable solution is a new head and radiator.

Hi Alpine,

Did you get anywhere with this? I have a Townace with the same problem, I'm now looking for a new radiator & having a great deal of trouble finding a compatible one - any suggestions?

We've been told it's possibly a blockage in the radiator that caused the problem.

Unfortunately Alpine never returned to the forum after asking his question. DD.

Take the radiator to a specialist and have them fit a wide core this will help in cooling.

I have had one for the last 4 years and have found the cooling system to be very unpredictable. At times I was convinced that I had done a gasket , cracked the head or done or hose or radiator, because of overheating and water loss.
In all circumstances the cause has been a faulty radiator cap, which regularly needs replacing.
Unbelievable but true.

Mine over heated yesterday ,no water in the oil no oil in the water ,looked underneath just behind the drivers seat ,there are two tin plates 1 for the battery box the outher i think is rear air con.

Water was leaking out of the rear air con box ,hence my over heat .

Looks like a bust or loose pipe on mine .

All best out there !
