  For anybody in the market for a second hand diesel, it seems unfair that the buyer has no way of knowing that the vehicle has been running in a boosted or chipped state of tune. This is not helped by the fact that tuning box units and their ilk are being removed prior to main dealer servicing, so even they have no knowledge that the vehicle has been running under more stressed conditions than the manufacturer intended and must have some bearing on the long term durability of the engine/transmission.

  My revived Capri 2.8i is running happily on unleaded fuel with a lead additive. However, I saw in the Mercedes-Benz Club magazine this morning favourable mention of someone running an old unconverted Merc on unleaded with the Powerplus fuel filter.

  I have an Fiesta XR2i that stalls intermittently. The stalling occurs when idling, when the engine is warm after about 20 minutes running. The car will not restart then for up to one minute. When it does start it runs fine but the failure may re-occur. The idle speed control valve has been replaced but the problem has not been rectified.

  Hi, My vehicle is a 1998 Motorcaravan based on a Fiat Ducato 1.9td (i think it is a Peugeot engine) The problem started Just recently and appears to be getting worse, when starting from cold, although it starts easily it runs rough for about 30 seconds with white smoke from the exhaust. after this it runs perfectly.(passed the MOT smoke test yesterday at a reading of 1.21) The fuel and air filters have been Changed (after the problem first appeared),also oil and filter,it has a low mileage (13000mls) Any suggestions much appreciated.

    We did run some Wynn's Extreme 3 through it a year ago but did not help the idle. I thought about getting some bg244 for £20 but if we break down again cannot get towed for the same fault plus it might push more junk from the fuel tank through the injector.

  When warm the car does seem to run ok, but there is still a very slight hesitation when accelerating hard. So far I have done the following. Changed the spark plugs, read the ECU to see if there are any codes. None were found.

    Since then the car has given me nothing but trouble. sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn"t. sometimes it stalls when braking coming up to roundabouts and when stationry or idlling, sometimes its fine. sometimes it kangaroos everywhere and sounds like its running on three cylinders. It seems worst when its wet or damp. Now it keeps going into limp mode and wont go above 2300rpm. If i disconnect the battery and leave it for a period of time say 24hrs, it seems to reset itself and run as normal and like its old self. then 30mins into the journey or the next time i start it any of the above problems might surface.

  Hi I would just like to add some info on the guy who has the same problem as I do, NOVEMBERS FORUM, my total milage from new is 36000, car runs as new, EXCEPT if I am stopped at the lights or a traffic jam, the engine gives symptoms as if its running out of petrol after about 20 seconds, the engine warning light comes on, and stays on, and the engine then runs on about 2 cylinders!

  Which it will, so she has to go. What I need is as per header, smallish hatch with boot space & dead economical to run. Will be used to commute to work too, so thinking about it so much of a run about then. What I'd like is one of those wee fast diesels that have arisen & looking through back threads I see the Seat Leon seems a better bet than the Ibiza.

  So I was on my own, first I changed the air filter and then the diesel fuel filter, this made no difference. Further searches on the interweb on rough running engines seemed to point to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) unit being at fault, this unit measures the air flow into the engine and sends the relevant signal the the engine's Engine Control Unit (ECU).

  Again its been like this for ages. There is also a thick black ring at the tip of the exhaust so I assume it is running rich. I've just had the plugs changed so its running a lot smoother now, it was mis firing before it still does a tiny bit but its hardly noticable. Would I right in thinking that worn plugs would cause it to run rich because of unburnt fuel?

  (Diesels driven care that is and not booted forward at every gear change with maximum torque) Could it be that the official fuel consumption tests flatter Petrol? and what would the difference be if the typical short, still not up to temperature run above were introduced as a measurement? where Petrol has to run rich and waste its fuel. • Silicon grease on brake slide pins 6 Dec 2022 (Forum)
  Can someone point out what I am failing to appreciate. Brake slide pins are metal running through synthetic seals and the recommended lubricant is silicon based. Spring powered air rifles have a synthetic seal running within a metal cylinder and should never be lubricated with a silicon-based lubricant.

    also fitted a new battery and secondhand alternator but don't think it is charging as when i attached a volt meter it is reading 12.15v when engine is not running but 11.95v when engine is running.  also car is ticking over at 1000rpm and climate control is not blowing when i turn up blowers (don't know if linked).  if alternator is at fault is it just likely to be the regulator.

  I have bought a 2004 Xsara Picasso today, it is running great in every aspect, however when i got home after making several stops at different location, when i turned the key off, the engine remained running. I have turned the engine off several times today and it worked fine, it just started at 6pm tonight, however after countless tries since, the engine will not stop without me deliberately stalling it.
