Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0). Gadgets are compelling, but I've almost disregarded the Primera despite its tech, because it looks so dull! So come on then - give me your pointers and guidance. -
12.5K to spend! 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I drive 25-30K miles a year so realistically should be a diesel. Only me and the wife so configuration (hatch/saloon/ragtop) not important but it must have cruise control & Sat Nav. New would be good but up to a year old acceptable. No supercars (although I'd love a TVR I really couldn't bear the running costs. The best I have managed so far is a Nissan Primera 2.2 dCi SE 2005 spec with Sat Nav & cruise plus lots of other stuff on it as standard. -
Help appreciated on selecting new car 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Want 03 reg to be as old as it gets, ruling out BMW's - any suggestions? Co2 / list price new and budget all important. SAAB 9-5 2.2TiD Estate maybe? Good suggestions as to where to source, i.e: not main dealer, not car supermarket appreciated! Cheers! -
Springtime mx5 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
anyway I'm looking for some advice on where to buy without getting caned at this time of year, budget up to £7k, eunos mk1 or mx-5 mk1 or 2. With new ones going for £12.7k it does seem to make a 10year jap import at 4.5-5k retail look a tad pricey! is it possible to buy direct off the boat in auctions in dublin, I thought I had heard of this before. Otherwise any advice appreciated (uk auctions, private seller?) -
Complacency over safety 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My friend was driving a Mondeo and walked out it with minor bruising. I for one, will have a serious rethink about the cars I drive and how important is it to have electric windows, air con etc, as opposed to having a car that I can climb out of after an accident. -
Best car for 10k 19 Jan 2004 (Forum)
At work i drive Diesels all day but im very flexible about what I get. Ive been looking at loads of cars, Fiesta, Focus, Fabia TDi, Polo TDi,prereg 323, octavia Tdi (import), Megane Dci 80, Almera 1.5, I dont have a family .I like diesels but my commute is short. I value comfort and a good driving position, and I like a bit of space, and I have a limit of around 10k to 10.5k tops. -
Dangerous diesel spills 5 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Now that diesel cars are becoming increasingly popular over there, it is important that their drivers are educated about the dangers to motorcyclists of spillage of diesel from over- and careless filling. At the very least manufacturers should spell this out in handbooks, or maybe on inside of the gas cap door. -
Call in The Air Ambulance? 24 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Are there any locations at which it is impossible to use the road ambulance? Is it the case that a few egos have to be massaged - "we are more important/wealthy than you, we have an air ambulance in our area" I have heard that frequently a road ambulance is in the vicinity, but it cannot be used because "that is an air ambulance job" as a consequence the injured are slower getting to hospital and motorists are delayed more. -
why did you choose your car ? 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
What car do you drive and what made you choose it ? Was it just looks (are you sure ??) or was it something more important like, fuel economy, size, practicality, cost, performance, driving pleasure ? Come on - what car do you drive and why did you buy it ? I'd also like like to know why some people get so upset about others not liking their cars (Fiat thread). -
Valuation please for Xantia 1.9TD Estate 28 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I'm thinking about selling my 1996 (N reg) Xantia 1.9TD Estate, it's the "base" model and I mean base - no electric windows, sunroof, aircon, ABS etc. though it has got remote central locking and an immobiliser. Now the important bits; 1 previous owner (ex-fleet), "doom" blue, 136K with full service history (MD till 109K then Citroen specialist, serviced every 6K). All the bits and pieces are working fine, MOT till Nov'03, Tax till May'03. -

So far i aint having much luck! - im still tempted by micronet as i plan to keep the car for some time so resale wont be an issue. -
If my car fails its MoT 30 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Priorities are space, low insurance, manouverability, and fuel economy, although lots of toys and a bit of performance would be nice. Age isn't as important. I don't want anything larger than 1.8 litres (petrol) or 2.0 (diesel). Not particularly keen on superminis, definitely no people carriers, and Mondeo/Passat size is larger than I need, although I wouldn't necessarily mind that. -
Correct fluid/oil types ?? 29 Aug 2002 (Forum)
How important is it to stick to exactly the same make and/or type of brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, power steering fluid etc. etc. when topping up their levels ? My Volvo manual states for example that I should top up with their own coolant (type C - blue/green @ 50% water/50% coolant) but doesn't seem to give a specification for this that I could try to match elsewhere at less cost. -

Her budget and requirements are similar but she has no real preferences; the main req's are the above but she can stretch to say gp 6 insurance, and 5 drs isnt essential. Pas is fairly important. -
Spares for foreign cars 26 Jan 2002 (Forum)
It suggests they will be adding other foreign vehciles to their list, as quoted : "Several people have emailed us about German & Swedish parts. Be assured that David and I are working on an all new website to reflect this important part of the GSF Group, and although much work has been done on the site, it is still not ready for launch. This site will be larger than andyspares.com, and will offer a choice of downloadable catalogues as well as 37 branch maps, and full on-line shopping for VW/Audi,Porsche,Saab, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes vehicles. -
Advice on my next car 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
My previous cars have all been Mondeos (circa 1995) and an Accord that I owned for years that was deadly dull but oh so very reliable. I would like 5 doors, size not important but I have no kids, no need to lug anything around. No desire for a convertible, MPV or four wheel drive. I want to buy second hand as I don't really have a large budget to finance the replacement, maybe £2,000-£3,000 max. -
Volkswagen T5 Caravelle (2003 - ) - Scam or Legit 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
The car comes with original invoice, owners manual and all the documents to prove its ownership. You won't have to pay any import taxes because it's a UK car, not an import. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car onto your name. The delivery of the car takes max. 5 days depending on your location.I am a private seller not a dealer and I had (for the moment) the privilege to buy this car at a low cost from a bankrupt dealer and now this new business is forcing me to sell it fast and under the market value. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - idling problems 27 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The one I bought had the same main number as mine (B32/00) but a different "A" number underneath. I was told that the B32/00 is the important one, and the other number was not as important. When I measured the resistance of the two coils, in the new one they were about 48 ohms, whereas the old one was about 52 ohms. When I changed the motor the same problem occurred, i.e if it was set to idle low, the ECU didnt correct it. -
Skoda Octavia Estate 2.0 TDi - Replacement Recommendations 10 Dec 2024 (Forum)
He's 6'7", one of his son's is 6'5" already and the younger son is catching up fast so passenger space is important as well as luggage space for their camping trips. I think the time is right for a plug-in hybrid - there are some nearly new 1.4 iV Skoda Estates on Autotrader but Skoda seem to have abandoned hybrids, which may not be a good sign - I looked at Toyota but the Corolla is too small and there's no hybrid Avensis.
