Rover 45 - Problems with car battery and starting the car 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
It acts and makes the sound of the battery being flat with just the clicking noise. If i then hook up jump leads from wifes car then it starts immediatly. It will then drive for a while and then if i stop somewhere and then restart the engine even a couple of hours later it will start fine again. It seems to be only when i leave it for overnight or longer. -
Peugeot 306 P reg - electrics problem 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Initially thought the battery had gone flat, however a number of the electrical items worked such as lights, fans, indicators central locking etc, but windows, igntion did not. Tried it with jump leads which had no affect, so I concluded it must be an electrical problem. Then, when the ignition key was 1/2 turned to plug warming postion, some of the dash lights started flckering, then I had full electric power in the cock pit, then it was gone again. -
Vauxhall Vectra 2001 (Y) DTI SRI 2.2 Diesel - EGR valve 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I have replaced the valve and still the same. Now they are saying its the vacum, two little black boxes near the battery. A thin pipe leads to the ERG valve. Has anyone any advise on how i could stop this happening ? -
Renault Clio 2001 1.2 Dynamique - Can't start engine... immobiliser problem? 13 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Ok, 3 problems occurred around the same time yesterday, all leading to me not being able to start the engine: (possibly all unrelated!) 1) After turning the hazard warning lights on, I couldn't turn them off. Had to remove fuse to get them to shut up. 2) Light snow 3) Usual minor roof leak near the sun shades... never bothered me before. -
Vauxhall Vectra B 1.9cdti 2007 - Intermittent starting - alternator? 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Once failed to start due to flat battery - 7V according to RAC technician. This was 30 minutes after a 5 mile journey. Started OK with jump leads; RAC said alternator was charging OK. My dad did a quick test : 12.5V engine off, 13.6V engine running and no electrical load, 13.4V engine running with lights and heaters on. -

Chrysler Voyager (1997) - Voyager questions 20 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Does anyone know when the belt is due to be changed? Secondly I have an airbag light on and the horn doesnt work which leads me to think that the clock spring is defective. I have seen on the internet that it was a known fault and was initially changed free of charge but dont know if that is still the case. Finally the handbrake travel is essessive and found on the net that this is also a known fault and was a subject to a UK recall. -
Mercedes B Class - Europcar ex hire cars 18 Aug 2010 (Forum)
During the negotiations, I asked to see the V5 to verify who the one previous owner was and was told the document was at their head office and they did not have a copy to hand. I was lead to believe that the car was probably bought in from Mercedes Head Office on their closed auction system. The V5 arrived today and it showed Europcar as the first owner!! It was never mentioned that the car was ex rental. -
Nissan Micra K11 - Misfiring 31 Jul 2010 (Forum)
It idles ok and the problem seems to appear after the engine is hot. I have replaced plugs/leads/fuel filter and fitted a second hand distributor but the problem remains. Local garages seem a bit reluctant to take it on "I would just have done the same as you mate" and suggest a main dealer. -
Fiat Brava SX80 1.2 16V - Fiat Brava power loss 22 May 2010 (Forum)
The car recently had a replacement engine fitted (second hand before I bought the car) the mechanic at the garage said everything was done that needed to be done so should be ok. I have changed the plugs and leads and also put an injector cleaning additive in the fuel, but the problem has not gone away. No warning lights come on to warn of anything wrong. Any advice. -
Chrysler Voyager V6 1998 - Misfire 10 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Eversince I bought the car, we have had a misfire. The codes are P0350 and P0351 and at times P0352. We have changed the plugs, leads and coil pack. The misfire was intermittent. It nows seems to be everytime we start from cold, although if we go on a longer journey of 1 hour or more, stop the car and leave it for an hour or so then start and drive after a while it will clear and run as normal. -
Why did some companies use Dizzy's until recently? 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
All my bangers have always had electronic ignition and all the Fords I have ever known have had it (I was too young to do anything under the bonnet of Cortinas etc) but some Vauxhalls and Rover still used the dizzy's until fairly recently even with proper fuel injection. The system seems really old fashioned to me, my ten year old car dosn't even have HT leads there is no need for them. So why did some cars still use this silly old fashioned system called Dizzy? All I ever remember about distributors is that you had to constantly spray WD40 on the points and they were very prone to damp. -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 2.5 Car running like stink 24 Jan 2010 (Forum)
After leaving it over the Xmas period, it runs like stink and its missing on cylinders 1 and 4, all leads and plugs have been changed and the coil pack has also been replaced to no avail, I've now been told by the garage that I use, that its possibly the ECU. Haven't got a clue, any ideas???? I'd be grateful for your advice -
Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 98 3.0 One cooling fan not working 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)

Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 94 1.8 Persistant missfire 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I have fitted a new rotor arm and found the black anti interference cap that fits over the dizzy cap was causing a missfire ,so removed it and the car ran fine. A week later The missfire is back ,so i replaced the dizzy cap ,no difference ,i swaped leads and plugs with a known good set ,still missfireing . The strange thing is i can watch the injector (single point )pulse extra fuel when it missfires at idle ,but cant see if this is a cause or the result of the missfire .It happens too fast. ??? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 2.0 misfire, oil leak and coolant loss 22 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Wondered whether missing was due to spark plugs, as had not been changed for a while, but when I removed the leads I noticed the first plug (to far left) was swimming in oil. Could this cause the misfire? Wondered whether rocker cover gasket leak could be the cause (but have changed this 3 times within last 2 years...!) -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 98 3.3 engine cutting out on decceleration 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Auto gearbox has just been rebuilt now engine is 'lumpy' on tickover and stalls almost every time when I deccelerate. New plugs and leads fitted still the same. Went to Chrysler dealer they found no fault codes although they did emission test and CO is 6% and H/C is 2000 ppm. They recommend having gearbox removed and rebuilt again, something that the gearbox company is obviously reluctant to do as gearbox seems to be working fine. -
Volkswagen Bora (1999 - 2006) - Bump Starting a Diesel 6 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Tried my wifes remote and that was the same and then the penny dropped, the battery was very flat. My freind had some jump leads in their car so it was not a problem, but the thought crossed my mind that if I had tried to bump start it, would I have succeded. The car is a VW Bora with a PD 130 TDI engine. Would it need need a lot of electrical power to work the injectors and electronics etc and would it cause damage if I had tried ? -
Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 03 1.0 Could fast idle give OBD code? 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
no perishing and securely fitted. -car doesn?t seem to be overheating, -water is circulating through the lead-off to the idle control unit, -air filter looks OK -can't see any loose sensor connections. So beginning to run out of ideas. Ebay has OBDll cables for under £20. Would anyone know if it is likely that a problem with the idling control would show up as an error code or are useful error codes always accompanied by the engine warning light showing? -
SEAT Ibiza II (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.4 Rough cruising 18 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Anyway, I got it all back together again, and have since dissassembled it and put it back again to check I have not missed anything. Also checked tightness of plugs and HT leads. The car is accelerating fine, and ticks over OK, but if you drive at a constant speed (say 30) it is very lumpy, almost like it's missing, bit not quite the same effect. Allegedly it was OK before I had it apart )but I can't always trust "user reports").
